The Rice Lake Model Airplane Club was first established around 1970 by Mr. The first club members were students of Mr. In 1972 the club became a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, (AMA), and our club number is 655. AMA is the world's largest aviation sport organization. The Rice Lake Model Airplane Club is a self-supported, nonprofit club. Our purpose is to promote a shared enjoyment of m
odel aviation as a recreational activity. Building and flying radio control aircraft is our main focus; however, we are a multi-interest club. Club activities include displays at local events, educational activities for youth, including presentations on general and model aviation. The club provides many organized model airplane events open to model enthusiasts from the region inducing Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, and North Dakota. These events include Fun-flies, Jet-flies and Float-flying. We typically hold several member only fun-flies at our various flying sites throughout the summer. Some of our members fly in local and regional combat flying events for fun and competition. Our members come from a wide geographical area and we strive to provide flying sites close to their home location. In addition to our home club flying site at Hungry Hollow near Rice Lake, Wisconsin, club members have several flying sites available near their home residence. Each site is insured through our club's charter with the AMA. During winter months club members fly smaller planes and helicopters in a local gymnasium. To fly at our AMA sanctioned sites, current AMA membership is required. Members receive liability insurance coverage for flying activities, a membership card, a monthly Model Aviation magazine and have voting privileges for national AMA office holders. We encourage anyone interested in model aviation to visit our Hungry Hollow flying site and talk with members about their planes and flying skills. Our Hungry Hollow flying site is located 5.5 miles north of Barron, Wisconsin at 1509 19th Avenue. Club membership is open to anyone who would like to be involved in this fascinating hobby. Youth and family memberships are available.
