On the final day of World Breastfeeding Week would like to talk about the benefits of part time work for breastfeeding mothers.

"Breastfeeding provides vital health and nutritional benefits for children with positive lifelong impacts, building healthier populations – and workforces - for the future. Women shouldn’t have to choose between breastfeeding their children and their jobs. Breastfeeding support is possible regardless of workplace, sector, or contract type." - WHO

Flexible work schedules - including part time hours - benefits parents and babies by:

✨ Continuing to support the foundation of life by building strong attachments and supporting mental wellbeing for the First 1001 Critical Days
✨ May reduce the risk of postnatal depression and anxiety
✨ Increases financial security as childcare costs are reduced
✨ Enables mums to breastfeed for longer
✨ Enables fathers/partners the opportunity to take some of the responsibility for parenting which creates more equity in the home

Employers should support women returning to work by providing flexible work options.

They can help you to support your baby’s weight, while you support their head with one hand and use the other to latch on. It’s especially great for the early days when both you and your baby are still learning to feed and getting to know each other.
