Minneapolis - it’s why they are a Sanctuary city!
We are the reason ICE is in Minneapolis. We are a Sanctuary City. We welcome all people. We have our flaws, but hosting the largest Somali population in the US is not one of them. Being home to one of the largest Hmong communities outside of Southeast Asia is not one of them. Being the trans capital of the US is not one of them.
Our people make us great.
This is a photo from Coffee (Outside) last Sunday, our biggest gathering ever. We posted up in front of the Ecuadorian Consulate just days after ICE tried to enter this foreign office illegally.
These shows of support are critical right now. Just being visible, just standing here chatting with your neighbors makes a difference. The bigger our crowd, the safer we make everyone around us feel, the more people feel comfortable coming out to join our crowd.
I got to talk to a couple of people from Ecuador who are in hiding (and in the country legally), but felt safe venturing out because of this crowd. That makes me proud. That makes me grateful. That fills me up.
Thank you, Northeast.
Join us at 5:30pm every Thursday at Recovery Bike Shop to walk together on Central Ave. Help put eyes on the street. Help watch over our neighborhood.
