I feel so bad for the friends and families of those involved in this horrific accident. 😞 We’re still driving home. We have to go to Raleigh to pick up our bags whenever they arrive. They’re still in Miami. You could put in a request to get them off of the plane (we had already boarded), but so many were doing it that they suggested people just wait. The bags will continue on to their final destination even though the flights were cancelled. My car is also at RDU.

I’m not upset about any of the inconveniences. People lost their lives today. I’m just grateful we’re able to go home and grateful for a husband that can drive through the night because I sure am a terrible travel partner. I fall asleep.

🚨 UPDATE: 5 people are confirmed dead and 5 others are injured, including the pilots.

There were only 2 people on board the aircraft, the two pilots. Both survived. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said crews freed them from the cockpit, and Local 10 reports the two pilots are among the five injured taken to hospital. Officials have not said how badly they were hurt.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed the toll at a news conference Sunday evening. Fire Chief Raied Jadallah said 3 of the injured were taken to a trauma centre in critical condition and 2 others to local hospitals.

Jadallah said people were trapped inside the vehicles the aircraft struck.

"What we found was a very complex situation," he said.

None of the dead have been identified. A hotline has been set up for relatives.

21 Air Flight 7598 landed at Miami International just before 2 p.m., arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Boeing 767 freighter, operating for Amazon Air, ran off the end of Runway 30, crossed the airport perimeter and struck multiple vehicles on Northwest 42nd Avenue before coming to rest in a field. It caught fire.

Flight tracking data shows the aircraft was still doing 112 knots as it left the usable surface of the runway. That is around 129 miles per hour.

More than 60 fire rescue units and 200 personnel responded, using foam and specialist airport firefighting vehicles.

Runway 30 is more than 9,000 feet long. A review of air traffic control audio reportedly shows the crew did not declare an emergency before landing, and inspection crews found no aircraft parts or debris on the runway itself.

The NTSB has launched a go team. Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy is on scene and the first briefing is expected Monday.

Amazon said it was "heartbroken to learn that five people lost their lives." Boeing extended condolences to the families.

The aircraft was 32 years old, delivered as a passenger jet in 1994 and converted to a freighter in 2015.

The ground stop has been lifted and 2 of the airport's 4 runways have reopened.

Our flights were cancelled and we’ve gotten a rental car. My sister just sent me this. 😆 Aruba to NC the long way. lol

Update 6:50pm: We’ve been told there were 5 fatalities and several sent to the hospital with injuries. Prayers to the family and loved ones of the victims. That’s horrible. 😞

We’ve just been told MIA is closed indefinitely. They will update us at 4:00, but the pilot said we may not know anything then. We’re waiting on the runaway.

We did see some ambulances, but haven’t heard anything about injuries or anything on the Amazon plane. They aren’t saying much.
