Some more love for our female techs - we're celebrating ABYC Certified Tech and Project Technical Committee (PTC) Member Jennifer Nummi from Buttercup Marine!
When Jen first discovered the fun of sailing as a young teenager, she knew her life would always be tied to the sea. She was accepted into the United States Coast Guard Academy and graduated as a commissioned officer in 2009 with a degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. While in the Coast Guard, she spent two years aboard a 270ft cutter as an Engineering Division Officer and three years as a Commercial Vessel Marine Inspector. Upon finishing her Coast Guard commitment, she left the service to pursue her sailing dreams. She spent two years on her boat, “Buttercup,” single handedly cruising the Eastern Caribbean and Bahamas. Completing her cruising adventures, she returned to St. Petersburg in 2017, becoming a marine surveyor and obtaining a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering at USF. Concurrently, she began apprenticing under Charlie Johnson of JTB Marine as a marine electrician.
Jen now operates and manages her own marine electrical business, Buttercup Marine, as an ABYC Standards and Electrical Certified Technician. She also assists in electrical training around the country as an Ambassador with Victron Energy. Additionally, Jen is involved in ABYC Standards writing as a member of several Electrical PTC subcommittees. Because of her background, Jennifer Nummi loves her job and is inspired to train new technicians, improve electrical safety for boaters, and make the world better, boat by boat, one marine electrical system at a time!..
