Five years ago, I celebrated my 50th birthday in Alaska, paddling toward a glacier.

Next week, I turn 55.

And when I look at this picture, I realize I entered my 50s exactly the way I wanted to: traveling, exploring, trying new things and collecting experiences instead of things.

Five years later, not much has changed. 😂

A text this morning said, "Want to walk the Ben Franklin Bridge for its 100th anniversary?"

I said yes.

Somewhere along the walk, I realized I've accidentally been collecting some of the world's most iconic bridges.

🌉 London Bridge
🌉 Sydney Harbour Bridge (climbed it)
🌉 Brooklyn Bridge
🌉 Golden Gate Bridge (biked it)
🌉 Charles Bridge, Prague
🌉 Pont Alexandre III, Paris
🌉 Galata Bridge, Istanbul
🌉 Ben Franklin Bridge, Philadelphia

I guess I'm collecting more than passport stamps.

Now I'm wondering...which iconic bridge should be next?

Social Media: Parisian streets, flowing dresses, and effortlessly rolling luggage.

Reality: Me silently calculating whether I really need everything I packed as I drag this suitcase over cobblestones looking for an elevator that doesn't exist.

Travel is 20% sightseeing and 80% negotiating with your luggage.

At least that's what I tell myself halfway up the stairs

As countries are eliminated from the World Cup, I hope they don't disappear from your radar.

Every flag represents a place with its own history, culture, food, music, and people. The tournament may be over for Jordan, Panama, Tunisia, Türkiye, and my beloved Haiti, but those countries are still worth exploring.

I've been fortunate enough to visit all five, and each one gave me a different perspective on the world.

The World Cup may inspire us to cheer for a country for 90 minutes. Travel gives us a reason to appreciate it for a lifetime.

So don't just watch the matches. Put the destinations on your bucket list. Let's make it happen.

Another day, another World Cup rabbit hole.

Today's matches featured Switzerland 🇨🇭, Canada 🇨🇦, Qatar 🇶🇦, Scotland 🏴, Brazil 🇧🇷, Morocco 🇲🇦, Haiti 🇭🇹, Czechia 🇨🇿, Mexico 🇲🇽, and South Africa 🇿🇦.

One thing I've realized is that I'm no longer just watching the matches. I'm reliving my travels.

As each country takes the field, I find myself thinking, "I've been there."

From the Top of Jungfrau in Switzerland to the pyramids of Mexico. From Cape Town to the Sahara Desert of Morocco. From the streets of Prague to Rio, Toronto, Edinburgh, Doha, and Jacmel.

The only countries on today's schedule I haven't explored yet? South Korea and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

It's funny. I started this World Cup trying to understand soccer. Instead, it's become a reminder of just how much of the world I've been fortunate enough to experience... and how much more is still waiting for me.
