We’ve all seen those chaotic traffic patterns at our home airport, especially at non-towered airports, right? 🤯 It drives me nuts! The goal is simple: land safely without interfering with others. Stay close to the runway—about a half-mile offset should do it.

How do you estimate half a mile? Check the runway length and use it as a guide. Typically, keep the runway about 2/3 up your Cessna's wing strut for high-wing aircraft like C152s and C172s.

Discipline is key: maintain altitude, speed, and a precise ground track. Wide downwind legs frustrate others and can be dangerous, especially if engine trouble occurs. Standardizing our patterns helps keep things smooth and predictable.
