Ok friends, I’m officially planning my first unofficial Zuehl fly-in and cook-out at my place, next Sunday, Oct 2nd. I’ll fire up the grill around 11ish. There should be plenty of airplane and car parking, I’ll do my best to direct traffic.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Acro Sport II ! Designed by Mr. Paul Poberezny, founder of the EAA, to be a more “gentleman’s” aerobat. That is, to be easier to build and fly than the more hotrod Pitts and Steen designs of the day. The Acro Sport I first flew in January of 1972, with the two-place design following not long after.

Typically powered by Lycoming 4-cylinder engines ranging from 150 to 200+ horsepower and inverted fuel and oil systems and cruising between 100 and 120mph, the two seaters range between 850 and 950 lbs empty with a gross weight of greater than 1200. Designed for +6/-3g’s, she’ll twist and turn and flip to the heart’s content!

I think I can safely attest to the AS2 being an absolutely fantastic airplane for one to cut their teeth on aerobatic flying. I don’t feel like I’ve ever learned so much, so quickly, entirely on my own as I have in the few months since laying my hands on this beautiful little airplane. Although, she still has a lot left to teach me, and I can’t wait!
