Fredericka Carolyn Washington (Fredi) was best known for her role in the original 1934 movie Imitation of Life. In an interview she stated "I have never tried to pass for white and never had any desire, I am proud of my race. In 'Imitation of Life', I was showing how a girl might feel under the circumstances but I am not showing how I felt." She was a black actress who refused to pass for white. She was heavily involved in the civil rights and worked with the NAACP to address the injustice against black people. She also refused to be typecast as a maid. If you noticed in all her movies her roles never required her to wear a maid’s uniform. She chose her roles carefully.

Tessa Prendergast Welborn was a model, fashion icon, actress, and dancer. She became well known by designing swimwear for the James Bond series in the 1962 movie. "Dr. No.". Tessa created a daring two-piece ivory bikini for actress, Ursula Andress. Unbeknownst to Tessa, her design revolutionized the fashion industry and became of one of Hollywood's most iconic costumes ever.
