The only protection our rail line has against local developers' attempts to remove it for an exclusive bikeway, instead of the current rail with trail plan, is the Federal Government protection of freight lines.

Freight lines can be used for public transit and recreation as well as parallel trails. If we lose federal protection, local politicians can decide to kill any operation they care to. Don't let this happen here.

The rail corridor was a relic from our past. Now it’s a path forward to a greener future. Spanning two October weekends — one each in Watsonville and Santa Cruz — the clean-energy, all-electric Coast Futura demonstration gave the community a tangible example of what car-free travel could be like in the region.
