Annual Class 2a–8 electric vehicle registrations were up 21% in 2025, led by pickups and delivery vans.

According to S&P Global Mobility data in the 2026 State of Sustainable Fleets Market Brief, total medium and heavy-duty registrations hit 50,095 units last year. Pickups made up 50% of that volume, and cargo vans accounted for 39%.

Fleet operators are driving the momentum. 57% of running medium-duty EVs said they're saving on operational costs compared to the vehicles they replaced, and 54% plan to grow their BEV use over the next two years.

Volvo Group Group North America has reached a major settlement with California regulators tied to emissions compliance concerns on certain older truck engines.

The agreement includes financial penalties, emission-reduction funding, and updates for thousands of engines in California, but Volvo says there are no safety or performance issues involved.

Dan Priestley, Director of Tesla Semi, took the Mainstage for an executive dialogue with Erik Neandross of TRC Companies, Inc. that focused on where the Tesla Semi program stands today, what commercial scale actually looks like, and why the TCO case for electric trucking has never been stronger.

Here is what stood out:
⚡ The first Tesla Semi rolled off the production line last week at their Nevada factory, and the ramp is on
📊 The pilot fleet delivered 97% uptime in 2025, with more than 90% of service incidents resolved and the truck back in the customer’s hands in under 24 hours
🚛 Two variants are now available, the long range and the new 325-mile standard range, which comes in under 20,000 pounds tare weight and is positioned as a direct diesel replacement for regional haul, drayage, and local operations
🔌 50 public charging stations are in progress, with more than half opening by end of year - and a continuing partnership with Pilot Flying J brings Tesla charging to the truck stops drivers already use

The ecosystem, including trucks, charging, service, parts, is all coming together at once. This is at scale.

His closing message to every fleet operator in the room: “Every day that your business is not running electric is a day you are leaving money on the table.” The economics are real. The only question is when you get started.
