This is what specialized transport looks like when standard solutions don’t exist 🤯

Moving a vessel of this scale from its fabrication site to a floating dry dock required a fully custom steel cradle system, precise load control over mixed surfaces, and constant coordination between transport operations, marine conditions, and site constraints.

When water levels in the Columbia River dropped well below normal, the plan didn’t stop—it adapted. OXBO engineered and built a temporary elevated roadway on the dry dock using thousands of timbers and steel components, allowing the load to transition safely before being lowered into position and floated free.

Every phase of the operation required problem-solving in real time, custom engineering, and flawless ex*****on from the field.

Transporting oversized transformers is a multi-stage operation that demands clear communication at every step.

From rail car to perimeter frame trailer, each move is planned and coordinated in advance. On site, the transformer is transloaded using a jack-and-slide system, allowing it to be moved directly from the trailer onto the pad through controlled, deliberate steps.

The process itself is simple—but it only works when every crew member is aligned, informed, and moving together.

OXBO completed the transport and deployment of a 130-foot radar dome across the United States and into Pearl Harbor as part of a multi-phase heavy lift project.

The final phase of the project took place at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, where OXBO supported the removal of the existing radome and installation of the new XBR2 radar dome atop the SBX-1 radar platform.

Following offload from the vessel, the radome was once again upended to a vertical position using custom rigging systems and 12 lines of Goldhofer PST.

The structure was then lifted from the Radome Envelope Container and carefully positioned onto the radar ringwall where it was secured and inflated.

The operation involved over 200 personnel, complex lift planning, and precise coordination to safely install the 130-foot radome.

The project spanned months of planning and ex*****on:

• 1,200+ engineering hours
• 7,000+ man hours
• 0 incidents

This multi-phase project included trial deployment, cross-country transport, marine loadout, and final installation.

OXBO completed the transport and deployment of a 130-foot radar dome across the United States and into Pearl Harbor as part of a multi-phase heavy lift project.

After traveling more than 4,100 miles across 11 states, the Radome Envelope Container (REC) arrived at the Port of Rainier, Oregon for the next phase of the project — vessel loadout for transport to Hawaii.

The REC, measuring 150 feet long and weighing over 200,000 pounds, was transported across the pier using 12 lines of Goldhofer PST/SLE and positioned for loading onto the MDA-contracted support vessel Black Watch.

OXBO developed a detailed marine loadout plan accounting for river currents, tide swings, vessel positioning constraints, and limited dock space along the Columbia River.

Using a combination of spacer barges, a derrick crane barge, tugboats, and 75-foot loading ramps, the REC and radome were safely transferred to the vessel and secured according to ABS requirements before departing for Ford Island, Pearl Harbor.

OXBO recently completed the transport and deployment of a 130-foot radar dome across the United States and into Pearl Harbor as part of a multi-phase heavy lift project.

Before the new XBR2 radome could be transported across the United States and installed at Pearl Harbor, the structure first had to undergo a full-scale trial deployment.

Inside a historic hangar in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, OXBO executed the trial lift and deployment of the 130-foot diameter inflatable radome designed to protect the X-Band radar system mounted aboard the SBX-1 vessel.

Using four RT cranes, a 600-ton hydraulic crane, and 12 lines of Goldhofer PST/SLE, the radome was carefully lifted from a horizontal position and positioned within a custom-engineered Radome Envelope Container (REC). The REC was then upended to a vertical position using a specially designed tripping frame to simulate the final installation conditions.

With extremely limited clearance inside the hangar, precision coordination between crane operators, rigging crews, spotters, and drone monitoring ensured safe ex*****on of the lift.

This trial deployment allowed engineers and the customer to fully inspect the radome before the next phase of the project — cross-country transport and final installation.

Over our 33 years in operation, barge loading has been a core capability. The Sellwood Bridge project alone involved 11 barge loads totaling more than 7.5 million pounds of components, all offloaded and delivered directly to the bridge site for installation—demonstrating OXBO’s ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex marine logistics safely and efficiently at scale.

Tight access. One shot to get it right.

This move involved transporting a forged hammer known as the “Anvil.” The load was configured with an 8-line Goldhofer CA with neck and one pull truck, built to handle the weight — but the real challenge was access.

Prior to delivery, our team met onsite with facility leadership to determine whether the equipment could even reach the building. The layout required a carefully engineered route that included entering through one driveway, exiting to the main road, circling the property, and re-entering from the opposite side to approach the building correctly.

To support the move, steel plates were installed at key points throughout the yard to distribute weight and protect the surface. The crew also coordinated with the facility to clear the entire parking area, creating the space needed to maneuver the transport.

Once inside, the load was positioned precisely over a pit inside the building, where a gantry system completed the final unload.

There was initial uncertainty about whether this configuration could successfully navigate the site, but the crew delivered exactly as planned — executing the move safely and efficiently.

A great example of what happens when planning, experience, and teamwork come together.
