The Sun’ll Come Out... Tomorrow... But These Buses Need a New Home TODAY! 🎭🚌

The curtain is officially coming down on our "Hard-Knock Life" auction on Municibid. These retired Monroe County Transit Authority vehicles have taken their final bow, and bidding wraps up between noon and 12:30 PM today, Oct. 16.

Don't let these lots become a "Hard-Knock" miss for your scrap yard or parts collection. Whether you're looking for parts or a heavy-duty project, snap them up before it's too late.

Today, the Monroe County Transportation Authority, aka Pocono Pony, hosted a Shared Ride Ride-Along event. We welcomed local leaders aboard to experience firsthand how public transit connects our communities, supports independence, and serves as a lifeline for older adults and individuals with disabilities.

A heartfelt thank you to our legislative participants for joining us on the route: PA Sen. Rosemary M. Brown; Danielle Cotumaccio, from the office of PA Rep. Maureen E. Madden; and Nancy Parks, from the office of PA Rep. Jack Rader.

We were also joined by executive director Kim Whetsell of the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association (PPTA); staff from the County of Lackawanna Transit System (COLTS); and our regular rider, Valerie, who shared her perspective on why dependable, accessible transit makes such a positive difference in her daily life.

Today is the Great ShakeOut, and while you likely won't see anyone crawling under office desks in Monroe County today, it’s a great reminder of our local geological reality.

Most of us remember feeling the tremors from major regional events such as the 2011 Virginia earthquake or the 4.8 magnitude quake centered nearby in New Jersey.

Why do we feel them here? Eastern North America sits on ancient, solid bedrock that acts like a giant sounding board; seismic waves travel significantly farther out East than they do out West.

We may not feel these tremors often, but it's always smart to know what to do (Drop, Cover, and Hold On).

No tricks, just a free ride on the Boo Bus! 👻🚌

Heading to the Chestnuthill Parks & Recreation Fifth Annual Halloween Spooktacular at Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17? Pack up your little ghosts and goblins and let the Pocono Pony do the driving. Hop on our free shuttle service running between Pleasant Valley Middle School and the Chestnuthill Township Park so you can skip the parking stress and get straight to the fun.

Fun Holiday Facts to Impress Your Friends:

Did you know that the Santa María was actually the slowest of Christopher Columbus' three ships, averaging just around 4 knots (about 4.6 mph)? Good thing MCTA gets you across Monroe County a whole lot faster and safer.

None of these vehicles currently run, making them the perfect adoption project for parts collectors, salvage pros, or scrap yard "Daddy Warbucks" looking for quality components.
