Did you know one of Seattle's best wildlife viewing spots is hiding in plain sight?
The Ballard Locks are much more than just a place for boats! During your visit, you might spot gray harbor seals, California sea lions, bald eagles, great blue herons, cormorants, gulls, and many other Pacific Northwest seabirds.
One of the biggest highlights is watching salmon migrate through the famous fish ladder. Depending on the season, thousands of Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, and other salmon species make their incredible journey between Puget Sound and Lake Washington.
Opened in 1917, the Ballard Locks are one of the busiest lock systems in the United States, raising and lowering vessels between saltwater and freshwater while providing visitors with amazing views, beautiful botanical gardens, and endless photo opportunities.
