Salzburg is extremely beautiful, surrounded by picturesque mountains. City is very walkable and safe. Lots of great shopping, history and architecture.

🛳️ Understanding the Windows: Category C vs. B vs. A & Suites

Greetings from the Classical Rhine! Our Senior Group is currently on board, and as I travel with my group, I’m reminded of how important it is to choose the right cabin for YOU—not simply the most expensive cabin!

As you know, I specialize in senior group river cruising, and Amadeus is still one of my favorite river cruise lines, especially for my many solo travelers. ❤️

One of the questions I get all the time is:
“Judy, which cabin should I book?”

Well, let me break it down for you!
🌊 CATEGORY C — Great Value for Solo Travelers
Category C cabins are located on the lower deck at water level. They have a fixed window that does NOT open.
Because the window is at water level, you can actually hear the sounds of the river as you cruise. 🌊 It’s a unique experience, but something to consider if you are a light sleeper.
Another thing to consider is the location of the cabin.
Amadeus offers C-1 and C-4 cabins. Generally, the C-1 cabins are more toward the front of the ship, while C-4 cabins are farther toward the rear.

The rear of the ship is closer to the engines, so you may experience a gentle hum or vibration. I describe it as being similar to the sound of a fan. It doesn't bother me, but if you are a very light sleeper, you may want to consider moving up to a Category B.

💰 And here is where Category C becomes especially attractive for my solo travelers: On certain Amadeus sailings, the single supplement can be as low as 15%. That can be a fantastic value compared with what many other river cruise lines charge solo travelers!

🪟 CATEGORY B — My Favorite Balance
Category B cabins are located on the 2nd and 3rd decks and feature panoramic windows that roll down.
This is one of the features I really love about Amadeus!
You can sit in your cabin, lower the panoramic window, and enjoy the scenery and fresh air while cruising along the Rhine. ❤️
Again, there are generally B-1 and B-4 cabins. B-1 is typically toward the front, while B-4 is generally more toward the middle/rear.

If you're a light sleeper, I think Category B is worth considering because you're farther away from the water-level sounds and, depending on the cabin location, away from some of the engine noise.

🪟 CATEGORY A — Higher Deck & Panoramic Views
Category A cabins are on the upper passenger deck and also feature the panoramic roll-down windows.
You get that wonderful open-air feeling and beautiful views while remaining inside your cabin.
One thing to keep in mind: Category A cabins are generally just below the sun deck.
Personally, I actually prefer the second-level deck because it provides a little more insulation from activity happening on the sun deck above.

🏡 SUITES — The Best of Both Worlds
If you want the ultimate cabin experience, the suites give you both a balcony AND the panoramic roll-down window.
So you have the flexibility of enjoying your panoramic window or stepping outside onto your private balcony.

❤️ SO WHICH CABIN SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Here’s my simple breakdown:
🌊 CATEGORY C
✔️ Lower deck
✔️ Water-level fixed window
✔️ Window does not open
✔️ You can hear the river
✔️ Often the best value for solo travelers
✔️ Single supplement can be as low as 15% on select sailings

🪟 CATEGORY B
✔️ 2nd/3rd deck
✔️ Panoramic roll-down window
✔️ Great balance of price, location and views
✔️ My recommendation for light sleepers

🪟 CATEGORY A
✔️ Higher deck
✔️ Panoramic roll-down window
✔️ Wonderful views
✔️ Located just below the sun deck

🏡 SUITE
✔️ Private balcony
✔️ Panoramic roll-down window
✔️ Best of both worlds
✔️ Perfect if having outdoor space is important to you

And this is why I tell my clients: Don't just book a cabin—book the cabin that fits the way YOU travel.
Are you a solo traveler looking for the best value?
Are you a light sleeper?
Do you want to hear the river?
Do you want a panoramic window?
Is a private balcony important to you?
There isn't one “best” cabin for everyone.
There is a BEST cabin for YOU. ❤️

One of the benefits of working with a travel advisor who actually travels on these ships is that I can give you advice based on experience—not just a brochure.
I'm currently sailing the Classical Rhine with my Senior Group, so I'm taking notes, experiencing the ship, and gathering all the little details that can help my next group make the right choices.

🚢 Thinking about trying a river cruise?
Let me help you find the right ship, itinerary AND cabin for your next Bucket List adventure!
