Family, clients, and friends. Please note, as of today Seattle's "Revive I-5" road work plan closes 2 lanes of NB Ship canal bridge for repairs for the entire 2026. There will not be ANY express lanes going SB I-5 for the entire year. Although I'm happy to hear the bridge will not be crumbling onto our office (hopefully), this is going to severely affect the PMT commute in the morning. We do not have the option to work from home. Please be safe out there, and patient with our staff as our office hours may require some slight adjustment along the way.

Please note, beginning January 1st, 2026, Seattle/King County tax rate will be 10.55%. Make sure you get all of your files into our office early as we will be on reduced hours/staff over the holidays and want to make sure to get all of your active transactions close before the tax rate increase.

Please take note of the additional .5% Washington State Luxury Tax on the overall sales price of a vessel that will begin July 1st, 2026. We are not fully clear if it applies to vessels over a specific price point, but as we get closer to July more information should be available.

As highlighted in our prior legal alert on Washington State’s historic tax increases, the State enacted three luxury taxes aimed at aircraft, boats, and vehicles. This alert addresses all three taxes to help taxpayers plan their future transactions.

Please note, due to the current Government shut down, the Coast Guard is now working with a reduced/ furloughed staff. The recreational research and the issuance of Certificates of Documentation is delayed. The commercial research and filings will be held until the Government re-opens.

We wanted to provide notice to Washington State Clients, that King County has increased the Seattle Tax Rate beginning 4/1/2024. The new Tax Rate will be 10.35% as of April 1st. Friday Harbor, Olympia, Port Townsend, Thurston County and Whatcom County have all increased the tax rate as well beginning 4/1/2024. Here is a link to the WA Tax Rate Sheet for this quarter:
