Sail Sand Point

Sail Sand Point Sail Sand Point is Seattle's Community Boating Center; a non-profit 501(c)(3) incorporated in 1998.

Sail Sand Point was incorporated on September 25 1998, in Washington State as a 501(c)(3) corporation. Sail Sand Point is located at the North Shore Recreation Area, on the campus of Sand Point / Magnuson Park on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle. During these years, SSP has created sailing and small boat programs for youth and adults from the greater Seattle area. These programs have broug

ht in youth and adults of all ages to participate in summer camps, year round youth racing clinics, adult classes, open sailing opportunities, boat storage and a variety of partnership programs. We have offered programs at a modest cost to encourage all members of the community to participate. SSP is focused particularly on youth and the development of lifelong skills of sailing and personal qualities of character, leadership and the awareness of environment. Programs started in 1999 have expanded greatly and now in 2011, we are offering new and creative programs and are experiencing an enthusiastic response. Our traditional programs continue to be successful, with a high rate of return of students and instructors. In order to fulfill our mission of providing affordable access to the water for everyone, SSP offers 1/2 and full scholarships to children between 5 and 17, and opportunities for adults to volunteer in exchange for boat use and classes.

Behind every joyful moment you see on Lake Washington from our summer camps and group programs is a fleet that’s sturdy, safe, and well-maintained. Your support this GiveBIG helps us create more unforgettable moments and thousands of experiences for young sailors!

Our goal is to raise $5,000 for sailboat maintenance to keep our boats in the best condition possible. The repairs aren’t always glamorous, but the community effort that has allowed us to maintain our boats year after year truly is something special.

If you’re in a position to help us reach our GiveBIG, you can trust us to stretch every dollar as far as we can to make sure each boat stays ready to go this season.

GiveBIG 2026 runs April 28 through May 5, with a 24-hour giving event on May 5th. Early giving is already open and you can schedule your gift anytime before 11:59pm on May 6th at wagives.org. We’ve set a modest $5,000 goal — and we hope you’ll consider helping us get there. This year’s donations go directly toward sailboat maintenance, an ongoing expense that runs over $8,000 annually to keep our fleet safe and seaworthy.

Sail Sand Point is Seattle’s Community Boating Center, a nonprofit founded in 1998 dedicated to making sailing accessible to everyone regardless of age, income, or ability. We serve over 15,000 people annually, offer more than $50,000 in scholarships, and provide $300,000 in public benefit as calculated by Seattle Parks & Rec. Your gift helps keep costs low and boats on the water for the thousands of people who count on us each season.

If you’ve been watching others sailing around Seattle and curious about learning yourself, here’s your chance!

Our Adult 101 Sailing Classes are designed for total beginners. No experience needed, just your willingness to try something new and exciting! Over this two week class, you’ll learn the basics, get hands-on time skippering and crewing a boat, and build the confidence to sail on your own or with a friend.

Once you’ve got the skills, you can keep the momentum going with rentals! This class prepares you to take the skills check and take a boat out on your own!

Weeknight + weekend sessions available, but we anticipate that they will fill quickly. Register at sailsandpoint.org!

Meet SSP’s new Youth Program Director, Peter Hall!

“I’m very excited to join the Sail Sand Point team. As a kid I sailed regattas here many times and have fond memories of this community. I’ve been sharing my love of sailing for many years now. As a youth instructor and program supervisor, running races for green fleet sailors, and teaching fellow students and staff at Western Washington University. I’m looking forward to running the SSP youth programs and bringing my knowledge and connections along with me. My goal is to continue what has made SSP’s programs great while making some changes to better support our students and staff. Thank you for your support and I hope to get to know many of you as we kick off this sailing season.”

Stop by and say hello! Looking forward to a great season of youth camps and regattas with Peter’s support!

We’re less than two weeks away from the first weekend of rentals, and we’d love your help getting ready for that opening day.

Please join us THIS Saturday, April 11th from 10AM to 3PM (at the latest). Our biggest priority is getting boats cleaned up and rigged, but we also hope to get the site looking a little prettier after a long winter. Snacks and equipment provided, so no need to bring anything except a lunch if you want. In true Seattle spring fashion, we won’t know if we’ll get rain or shine so prepare layers accordingly as well :)

See you soon!
