What a comeback. ✈️

This 1941 PBY-5A Catalina flew 195 combat missions during World War II — and more than 80 years later, it is back in the air.

After a seven-year restoration by American Aero Services in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, the historic aircraft made its first post-restoration flight just two weeks before heading to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026.

The result? Grand Champion World War II.

A wonderful example of aviation history, craftsmanship and the expertise keeping remarkable aircraft flying for future generations.

The meticulously restored 1941 Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina claimed the Grand Champion World War II award at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, just a few weeks after its first flight after a seven-year restoration.

Florida's Proposed “Aerial Highway Network”

A new Florida transportation proposal would direct approximately $198 million toward an “Aerial Highway Network”—a statewide system of locations capable of supporting electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

The concept includes approximately 32 sites across Florida, potentially including airports and other strategically located properties. These facilities could provide the charging, takeoff and landing infrastructure necessary to support future Advanced Air Mobility operations.

While the proposal still requires federal approval, it signals an important shift: Advanced Air Mobility is increasingly becoming an infrastructure and airport-planning issue, not simply an aircraft-development story. For airports like Sebring, that makes the evolution of eVTOL technology particularly worth watching.

Air Taxi Testing Coming to Central Florida

The future of flight is getting closer to home. ✈️
Florida plans to begin testing electric air taxis—or eVTOL aircraft—in Central Florida by the end of 2026.

With potential uses ranging from passenger transportation and cargo delivery to medical and emergency response, Advanced Air Mobility could change how people and goods move across Florida.

And it’s happening right here in Central Florida.

July Stormwater Monitoring Report Now Available

Sebring Regional Airport recorded 5.34 inches of rainfall during July, with 503 acre-feet of stormwater discharged through the airport’s four monitored outfalls.
With automated telemetry now operating at all four locations, the Airport continues to collect hourly data that provides a clearer picture of stormwater flow across the property.

Good environmental stewardship begins with good data.
