In case anyone was wondering .....
What is trucking? It's a $700 a week payments. It's $270 a week insurance. It's $1700 a week paying for fuel. It's breaking down spending $1000 to stay in a hotel to wait for your truck to get done with zero pay. It's getting a $20000 mechanic bill. It's spending $100 a month on a device in your truck to micromanage your time. It's shippers and receivers being rude and disrespectful and wasting your time. It's having to make do in your truck when you have to go to the bathroom because the shipper or receiver won't allow you to use the bathroom while they hold you up for 5 hours or more!! It's delivering goods to the same people that cut you off in traffic and then give you the finger because you inconvenienced them for being on the roads that you use to deliver them their goods. It's using truck stop showers that still have hair from the previous occupant on the floor. It's eating food you wouldn't feed to your dog but you eat it anyway because you're hungry. It's being harassed by the DOT. It's trying to find a safe place to park because most lots have signs that say 'no trucks allowed'. It's trying to make an honest living while having to deal with ridiculous rules and regulations. It's staying away from your family and friends for weeks and months at a time so America has what it needs. It's being scared of driving through major metropolitan areas at night during civil unrest. It's not having a normal life that you all take for granted. It's having the heart of a lion and a soul of an angel because you've witnessed the worst of humanity. Being a trucker is in our blood. It becomes a lifestyle. It becomes our life. We bitch, we complain but we love what we do. All we ask is you give us a little respect for the sacrifices we make for you!

It shouldn't come down to choices. Everyone fights for living wages for the regular person. But what about the truck driver? The consumer seems to be the only important player.

Brokers post it. Dispatchers push it. And somewhere out there, a driver accepts it — because the truck doesn't care about your profit margin, it just needs fuel.

So you take the cheap load. You tell yourself you'll make it up next week. But here's what nobody's posting on the load board: the tire that needed replacing last month is still spinning at 70 mph.

The oil that was due at 15,000 miles just crossed 18. The brake adjustment you flagged on the pre-trip got mentally filed under deal with it later because detention already torched your morning and you're running out of hours. That's what cheap freight actually buys.

Not just a bad day's pay — it buys compromised decisions on an 80,000-pound machine sharing a highway with everyone's families. The carrier that undercut everybody to win that bid isn't running a tight ship.

They're running on borrowed time. And borrowed time on a rig doesn't expire quietly. It expires loud. On the side of I-70. Or worse, in the middle of it.

The real cost of cheap freight isn't the rate. It's what gets skipped to survive it. 🚛
