The City of Sidney is dedicated to creating a strong economic foundation for the community to improve the quality of life for its citizens and the business community. Five people serve on the City Council elected at large. Every two years the council chooses its chairman, which serves as the City’s Mayor. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month in City Hall. The city provides an all inclusive elec

trical, water, sewer, waste recycling, power plant, fire, golf, transportation bus, inspection, zoning and planning, parks, cemetery, swimming pool, police, airport, street, library, waste water treatment and various other services.

PRESS RELEASE: EAST ELM STREET CLOSURE FOR FULL SCALE EMERGENCY EXERCISE

City of Sidney & Region 21 Emergency Management announces that East Elm Street will be closed to all traffic beginning Friday, June 19, at 3:00 PM to support Operation East Elm Cascade, a full scale emergency response exercise. The roadway will reopen on Saturday, June 20 at 1:00 PM (tentatively).
This exercise brings together fire, EMS, law enforcement, and partner agencies to practice coordinated response operations in a controlled environment. There is no danger to the public. Increased emergency vehicle activity should be expected in the area during the exercise period.
Motorists are asked to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time. City of Sidney & Region 21 appreciates the community’s cooperation as we work to strengthen preparedness and public safety.

The Sidney Police Department administration will be closed tomorrow, June 4, for required IT maintenance, during which most of our internal systems will be down.

Please note that 911 emergency services will continue as normal and will be completely unaffected. We will resume all normal administrative operations effective Friday, June 5. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Again, we want to reiterate that 911 operations will remain fully functional and unaffected.

The City of Sidney will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. All City Departments will be closed and the Transportation Bus will not be running. The Sidney Public Library will also be closed.

The Solid Waste Department will be collecting Monday's trash on Tuesday and Tuesday's trash on Wednesday.

Memorial Day Message from the City of Sidney Parks

As we honor and remember our loved ones this Memorial Day, the City of Sidney wishes everyone a peaceful and meaningful holiday.

If you are visiting Greenwood Cemetery to decorate graves, please keep in mind these important reminders:
• Free-standing glass or ceramic vases are not permitted on grave sites.
• All floral arrangements—live or artificial—must be placed on the headstone foundation, not in the grass.
• All shepherd’s hooks must be removed following Memorial Day.
• Memorial Day decorations must be removed by 7:30 A.M. on June 14, 2026.

Thank you for helping us keep Greenwood Cemetery beautiful and respectful for all families.
