This is worth watching. So sad 3rd generation farm that will NOT be farmed by the 4th generation. They had to shut it down, cattle died or had to be put down. He shows tags of the cows lost, notice his cows did not have numbers, each named. So sad, and yes this was caused by the land applying of BIOSOLIDS - IT TRULY IS TOXIC SEWAGE SLUDGE. Along the Siletz River, so far the local farms that were applying no longer are applying above the water intakes for the Cities of Siletz, Toledo, & Newport. At least from the reports we have recieved from the DEQ. Toledo WWTP continues to apply below the water intakes for the municipals, on Kosydar's farm next to Euchre Creek, according to Toledo's WWTP Annual Bioslids Reports. In 2025 Toledo applied 22.27 DT. NO one can assure this practice is safe. It is known that PFAS, as well other chemicals, are in toxic sewage sludge aka biosolids, they are now in our waterways, in our bodies, our babies, basically in & everywhere. Yet the practice continues and #47 cuts regulations, this also covers this! Be aware/Beware of where you food comes from, if you buy beef or other livestock direct from farm, ask what is their feed source, what fertilizer was used on the feed. If you buy hay ask what fertilizer is used. Reminder, Moonshine Cattle Company does NOT use toxic sewage sludge aka biosolids. We have seen great reviews from their happy customers. 🌊🦅🌲💖

Dupont and 3M have been secretly poisoning America for decades. PFAs — also known as forever chemicals—are now in our food, water, clothes, and our blood. Th...

Land application of toxic sewage sludge aka biosolids contamination of PFAS is not limited to land and water, they have been detected in the air samples. This practice is NOT safe and should be stopped immediately.
For those Fertilizing hay crop with toxic sewage sludge aka and/or feeding hay from these fields. Think about how dusty hay season is, the particulate matter that comes both during the process and later when you feed out the crop. Are you breathing in PFAS? If so, in what quanity? Are you feeding your livestock PFAS? IS your livestock meat be contaminated with PFAS? Farmer what are you exposing your family, hay crew, neighbors to via the air, those who eat your livestock? For those farmers out there that have stopped this practice THANK YOU!

"... Federal researchers and university scientists have spent the past two years tracing PFAS, the synthetic compounds linked to cancer, thyroid disease, and immune suppression, back to an unlikely source: treated sewage sludge spread on cropland as fertilizer. ..."

"... PFAS deposited through biosolids do not remain locked in place. They migrate through soil profiles and wash into streams, creating exposure pathways that extend well beyond the fields where sludge was originally spread. ..."

"...The Katz team’s analysis detected PFAS in air samples and identified temporal patterns that aligned with regional agricultural activity. ..."
"...The plausible mechanisms are well understood in atmospheric science. Tilling breaks up soil and lofts fine particles. Wind erosion carries dust from bare or recently worked fields. Warm temperatures can volatilize certain PFAS compounds from the soil surface. All three processes peak during the same agricultural seasons when biosolids are most commonly applied, creating conditions that could move soil-bound PFAS into breathable air. What remains unmeasured is how much PFAS actually travels this route and at what concentrations. ..."
"... For people living near fields where biosolids are spread, the distinction between confirmed contamination in soil and water and probable but unquantified contamination in air is not academic. It shapes what protective steps make sense right now. Residents and local officials can request records on whether biosolids are being applied on nearby land and what PFAS testing, if any, is performed on those materials before use. ..."
👉👉"... Farmers can weigh the cost savings of biosolids against the possibility that future regulations or liability exposure could follow if contamination is traced to their fields. ... "

"... Filling the gaps will require boots on the ground
The research published through early 2026 paints a consistent picture: biosolids are a meaningful source of PFAS in soil and water, and a plausible contributor to PFAS measured in the atmosphere. What is missing is the quantitative bridge. How much PFAS moves from a treated field into the air column above it? Under what weather and soil conditions does that transfer peak? And what does that mean for the health of farmworkers spending hours in those fields or families living a quarter-mile downwind? ..."

Across rural stretches of the Northeast and California’s agricultural valleys, a quiet farming practice may be seeding the air, water, and soil with “forever chemicals.” Federal researchers and university scientists have spent the past two years tracing PFAS, the synthetic compounds linked to ...

(New News) Spooky stuff, they are making chemicals that they don't even know what it can do to people and the environment. When we all got together in a parade, city hall meeting, commissioner's meetings, etc. We got the municipals to notice and stop spreading biosolids above the water intakes of some of their own municipal water systems. The fact is biosolids aka "toxic sewage sludge" should not be land applied......the article reads it is in biosolids!

They weren’t even looking for it—it showed up while tracking how pollution forms.

Breaking Good News, finally, we knew from science toxic sewage sludge aka biosolids have PFAS in them plus other toxic chemicals. PFAS cause numerous health problems like cancer, reproductive problems and more. The good news is that these filters can be put on current water treatment plant's equipment. PFAS cause bladder cancer. Lincoln County is higher than the state rate. We know this from the cancer study the Oregon Health Authority completed at our request, we were higher in several cancers, including Lung Cancer. We and others across America have been asking for the EPA to look into PFAS which can leech into waterways. The Siletz River provides water to 1000's of people and toxic sewage sludge aka biosolids were being land applied above the water intakes. Science is slowly showing that is a dangerous practice. Toxic Sewage Sludge/Biosolids are still applied on fields along the Siletz River, though have stopped above the water intakes for the Cities of Siletz, Toledo & Newport, as far as we know. PFAS, are the hardest on children as their immune system is just developing, so with this new filter this may help them a lot. If this problem was ignored, it could have caused so much more deaths in the future. CDC says about 7,357 people die a year from PFAS, but they say, they are not sure, due to lack of data. We would suspect more deaths. Well with that all said above, we have a victory, cheers, people.

A new breakthrough could remove up to 98% of the toxic chemicals hiding in your drinking water.

We started talking about PFAS years ago and the DEQ ignored us, but we would not go away. Oregon has finally decided to pay for PFAS research in biosolids, that is a start. Kayleen & I started the Save Our Siletz River Facebook in 2018, we had very little knowledge of Toxic Sewage Sludge aka Biosolids. We saw what was going on with the river, aquatic life dying off. We did research and contacted an ex-senior microbiologist Dr. David L. Lewis who worked for the EPA and a Chemist Dr. Thomas Maler PhD, they explained what was in the biosolids, numerous toxic chemicals, including PFAS. We contacted others and soon there was hundreds and then a few thousand that wanted to Save Our Siletz River and joined our movement. Thank you All!!

We had meetings with municipals and their mayors, city council, and tribal council too. We had a senator a representative, county commissioners all listening to us. We became a movement including winning the Siletz Parade. The Siletz River is making come back we have noticed at our favorite spot in the Logsden area. We know of NO biosolids being land applied above the water intakes for Siletz, Toledo & Newport at this time. They are still land applied below the town of Siletz, which is too bad, and needs to stop. PFAS can cause numerous health problems including cancer, they can and do run off into waterways during rain events.

The committee adopted the -1 amendment to House Bill 2947, which appropriates $800,000 from the general fund to Oregon State University for a study on PFAS occurrence and distribution in biosolids applied to non-food agricultural fields; the measure was advanced to Ways and Means by prior reference.

The article reads industry & wildfires are part of the list that causes Alzheimer's (Dementia) we have both in our area, the Pulp & Papermill and biomass logging debris burns too. Our family who grew up in the Toledo area had family members who died from Alzheimer's and Dementia. We still believe Toxic Gas Monitors should be placed near the schools for a year, to see what Toxic Chemicals are in the air, if any, what is the harm having the monitors? The list also reads road traffic; there are a lot of diesel trucks that drive by the school daily. Air pollution can travel thousands of miles, as an example the wildfire smoke reaches the upper airstream and particular matter is carried with it. PMs cause numerous other health problems, like lung disease, heart disease and cancer to name a few.

New research points out that greater exposure to air pollution can be linked with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease

If you lived in the Toledo area you should know this and if you knew people who were sick or passed away. The smoke from the GP Pulp & Paper mill might have caused it, we don't know. If you went to school during the years mentioned below, how many of your classmates have passed away early? We lived near the mill during the mid 80s & early 90s. We moved away after our next-door neighbor son passed way at about 8 years old from cancer. Several more people in our neighborhood died from cancer after we moved and some fought it and won. The GP Pulp & Papermill burnt shredded tires from 1982-2008 according to the EPA. If you know or knew people who died or fought cancer, respiratory disease or cardiovascular disease the tire smoke could have caused it. We don't know as the DEQ or EPA has never researched that.

We are aware of the EPA study completed back in 2009, over 16 years ago. We found and shared an EPA Document with DATA they collected in 2009 several years ago. The EPA took air test on 19 dates over 3 months. The Air Monitor was located at the Toledo Middle School. They were concerned about Acetaldehyde, Manganese & Acrolein. Two of them cause serious health issues like Cancer. They detected Acetaldehyde and Manganese, they said the data for Acrolein was NO good. They said the Pollutant data was below the limits to harm children. Links with the testing results:
https://www3.epa.gov/air/sat/ToledoElem.html
https://www3.epa.gov/air/sat/pdfs/ToledoElem.pdf
There are a lot of flaws in the report, and they did not check for all toxic pollutants. The study should have been for a year of continuous monitoring, instead of just 19 days between end of 8/29/2009 and first of December 3, 2009. They should have also checked for toxic diesel emissions and wildfire smoke & biomass logging debris smoke too. They are all known to have toxic chemicals in the emissions. What toxic smoke happens when all the toxic chemicals mix?
The J. H. Baxter company in Eugene was shut down after years of people complaining about toxic pollution in 2023, because of hazardous chemical emissions & water pollution. It will cost millions to clean up the area and DEQ wants to make it a Superfund site. The USFS tested moss in the area and found hazardous chemicals in it.
We don't understand why the DEQ & EPA won't place gaseous air monitors near the schools for a year. If no Toxic Pollutants are found, good. If toxic chemicals are found near the schools. Koch Bros a multi-billion-dollar company can afford new emissions controls and prove they are concerned about our community and their employees. I worked at the mill and my father-in-law retired from there, he passed away in his 70s.
