84R Smithville Municipal Airport

84R Smithville Municipal Airport Only airport in Bastrop County, Texas. There is no local air traffic control. The airport is used mainly for private planes.

Also known as Crawford Municipal Airport, the airport is located on Hwy 95 (Loop 230) near the intersection of Hwy 71, and is the only airport in Bastrop County. One month ago we began the process of updating and upgrading the entire lighting system at 84R….the process couldn’t have run smoother! Thanks to the support of the Smithville City Council, TxDot Aviation Division and the FAA….our airport is safer than ever! Video courtesy of Sammi Hill.

Ok Friends of 84R….. the day you have patiently been waiting for …at 4PM today the Runway will officially be re-opened!!!
Can’t wait to see everyone and just got a load of fresh fuel! Check out our new lighting system, almost complete just need the beacon changed(Weds). Waiting on the PAPIs to be certified.

Two and a half weeks into our project and not to be disappointed…. ALL runway lighting done! End lights done! REIL lights done! Lighted windcone done! PAPI lights done! Beacon Pole delivered and to be installed next week. We are getting CLOSE to reopening the runway…. Pay attention to NOTAMS this weekend. After the runway is opened we will still have crews working east of the runway and ramp, and as you know the PAPIs will not be certified till FAA Flight Check flies and approves them.

Well Friends....it's been a long wait, but the BIG lighting project has begun, starting with the runway closure (many not happy) and moving RAPIDLY !! Our Electrical Contractor is working at warp speed, in less than a week most demolition has been completed and new materials are going in place. Concrete being poured today and I will keep you posted as to progress!
