🐴💕Welcome Fields of Foals Chance🐴💕
We are incredibly excited to finally introduce Fields of Foals Chance!
Chance is the handsome son of our beloved mare, Greg’s Majestic Stella, and is sired by the legendary World Champion Iron Horse MM Steele. He is also the full brother to two very special mares in our program, Cedarlane Charlotte and Cedarlane Elizabeth, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to watch his journey unfold.
Chance’s was our 3rd birth, 3 nights in a row arriving June 6th. However, his birth was anything but routine.
Stella experienced what horse owners fear most during foaling — a red bag delivery. A red bag delivery occurs when the placenta separates from the mare prematurely before the foal is born. Because the placenta is responsible for delivering oxygen to the unborn foal, once it separates the foal’s oxygen supply is rapidly cut off, making it a true life-or-death emergency. Every second counts in these situations.
With incredible timing, I was there to witness Stella go down to foal. The moment I saw the red placental membrane appear, I knew we were in a race against time. We immediately opened the membrane and assisted with the delivery as quickly as possible. Without rapid intervention, Chance could have suffocated before ever taking his first breath. Thankfully, we were able to get him delivered safely and breathing.
The urgency of the situation did come with a cost. In the effort to save his life, Chance suffered a cracked rib during the assisted delivery. Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to realize he’s supposed to be taking it easy! He is bright, curious, full of personality, and already convinced that stall rest is a terrible idea. Every day he reminds us that he’d much rather be out running like the wind across the pasture.
Most importantly, both Stella and Chance are doing well, and for that we are beyond grateful. Situations like this remind us just how precious every healthy mare and foal truly are.
We believe his name suits him perfectly. This little c**t was given a chance, fought for it from his very first moments, and continues to show us every day just how determined he is.
