We have a small, mighty team that works so well together that they average a bonus of $1.72 per hour every week. We need more people to join the fun.
Mader Mill is a pallet cut stock sawmill. We turn logs into the stringers and decking that pallets are built from.
We believe the best way to run our mill is with people who enjoy being generalists, learning multiple jobs, and rotating positions. You’ll see our owner and president training new employees, adjusting a machine, unsnarling a mess, greasing a bearing – in short, doing what’s needed.
You won’t be happy with us if you’re quick to say “that’s not my job.” If on the other hand you’re inclined to say, “can you teach me that?” then you’ll thrive with us. The more positions within the mill you can master, the higher your base pay will be.
At our place everyone is welcome and can feel like they belong regardless of their gender, orientation, nationality, education, or legal history. We practice the “no jerks rule” and have zero-tolerance for mean or unkind behavior and language. If you want a place where you can share racist or sexist jokes, please don’t apply.
We started in 2019 by gutting an old mill and building a new one from scratch. Our machines are state-of-the-art. Our facilities are cleaner and safer than most similar facilities. Our plant is not conditioned, however, so while you are working in a building, the temperature and humidity are essentially the same as the weather. Almost all of our jobs are done standing up and some degree of physical strength and coordination is required.
Edger Operator
The edger is the machine that receives raw boards cut from logs by the headsaw. The edger operator aligns those boards through the proper side of the edger to square up the sides. You’ll need some strength and coordination to be good at this job. You’ll work closely with the headsaw operator.
Sometimes the boards coming out of the edger get sideways or bind up, so you’ll also need good situational awareness - fixing these problems is a lot easier when they are caught immediately. We’ll train you how to adjust the edger to get the best cut and right dimensions. A lot rides on running the edger correctly, since errors cause a lot of waste.
In addition to base pay, we have a team production efficiency bonus pay of $0.5 - $4.00 per hour (2022 average is $1.72 per hour). This bonus rewards flexibility, teamwork, and good production even when we're short-staffed.
Our retirement plan includes a 3% company match and is offered through Edward Jones.
Paid time off of 5 days per year, earned weekly; 10 days per year after 1 year.
Several people on our team are fluent in Spanish.
