One Year of Slow Travel: What I Learned Living Abroad at 50+

365 days ago, I left the U.S. with a one-way ticket and no plan. Today, I'm sharing the truth about slow travel for seniors—the fears I had, the friendships I made, and how I afford this lifestyle on a real budget.

🌏 Slow travel isn't about being rich—it's about being intentional. From finding affordable apartments in Southeast Asia to navigating healthcare abroad to staying connected with family back home, I've learned that long-term travel after 50 is not only possible, it's life-changing.

In this video, I'm getting real about:
✨ My biggest fear (spoiler: loneliness) vs. what actually happened
✨ How to travel long-term without a trust fund
✨ The healing power of choosing a slower, more intentional life.

My new book, The Slow Path to Wellness: How Slow Travel Heals at Every Age, captures everything I've learned this year—and if you're ready to design YOUR own slow travel journey, I can help.

2 truths about slow travel they don't teach you:

💭 1. Slow travel isn't about how fast you go - it's about how deeply you arrive.

🌍 2. Changing your location changes your perspective - and your health.

I spent decades rushing through life in the US. Always moving, never arriving. Always stressed, never settled.
Then I slowed down. Way down.

Now I spend months in one place - really living, not just visiting. And something shifted:

My anxiety? Gone.
My sleep? Better than it's been in years.
My perspective? Clearer than ever.

It wasn't just the change of scenery. It was the permission to stop rushing. To breathe. To heal.

That's what slow travel does - it gives you back the parts of yourself you lost in the chaos.

If you're ready to trade the rat race for your own pace, I can help you plan it.

Personalized travel planning for Americans over 50 who are done waiting for "someday."

How can you afford to live abroad?

I get this question every single day.

Here's my answer from my "office" in Da Lat, Vietnam:

My apartment with this view? Under $300/month. My expenses in the US with NO view? Around $3,000/month.

Same laptop. Same work. Same me.

Just better quality of life, lower cost of living, and a whole lot more peace.

I'm not rich. I'm not lucky. I just stopped believing the lie that this lifestyle was only for "other people."

The wellness book I'm writing? It's literally about how your environment affects your ability to heal - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Kind of hard to argue against that theory when I'm living proof.

If you're tired of paying more for less, working harder to feel worse, and waiting for "someday" - let's talk.

I help Americans over 50 turn "I wish I could" into "here's my flight confirmation."

We provide personalized travel planning that handles the visas, housing, budgets, and logistics so you can actually DO this.

This weekend's nature hike reminded me why Vietnam has captured my heart. 🌿

There's something transformative about moving your body through nature, breathing in fresh mountain air, and discovering that wellness travel isn't about perfection—it's about presence.

At 50+, we're often told to slow down. But what if slowing down meant actually LIVING more deeply? What if it meant choosing adventures that heal us instead of exhaust us?

That's exactly what wellness travel through Vietnam has taught me. Every trail, every breath, every moment of wonder—it's all part of the journey.

Where has travel healed YOU lately? 💚

Thinking about leaving? Here's what they don't tell you.

I left the US at 65+, and these are the realities I face every day - the good and the hard.

Moving abroad isn't for everyone. But if you're losing sleep over staying, it may be time to explore what leaving could look like.

I help people figure out if this is right for THEM - and if it is, I handle the visas, housing, and logistics so you don't have to figure it out alone.

3 things I wish I knew before moving abroad at 65+ 🌍

After selling everything and leaving the US, here's what nobody tells you about retiring overseas:

✅ Healthcare abroad beats the US (and costs less)
✅ That storage unit is costing you more than rent here
✅ Loneliness hits harder than culture shock - plan ahead

The biggest mistake? Waiting too long to start.

What's holding YOU back from your dream retirement abroad?

Birthday adventures at 60+ hit different heights! 🎂✨

Spent my special day doing a Da Lat food tour, but the real surprise was the Crazy House—an architectural fever dream I didn’t see coming!

Full transparency: Those winding stairs tested this senior traveler. I held on tight, took my time, and yes, I crawled down a few sections because heights are NOT my thing. But you know what? I DID IT. And that’s what slow travel is all about—pushing yourself at YOUR pace.

This wild, whimsical guesthouse cost less than my morning coffee back home (under $4!), and I got to explore rooms themed after different countries while getting my steps in for the week. 😅

Is it for everyone? No. The stairs are intense and it’s not accessible for those with mobility challenges. But if you can handle some climbing and want a totally unique Da Lat experience, this is it.

Who says adventure has an age limit? 🌍
