Westbound I-55/70 in Madison County closure: Beginning Thursday, September 3 at 9 a.m., one lane will be closed on westbound I-55/70 at the IL 159 interchange. The on-ramp from southbound IL 159 to westbound I-55/70 will also be closed. All other westbound ramps at IL 159 will remain open during this work, which is for repairs to the Weigh-in-Motion system just west of IL 159. All lanes and ramps are expected to reopen by 6 p.m.

Beginning today, NITA is officially your regional transit agency, coordinating affordable, reliable, safe transit across the CTA, Metra, and Pace.

For riders, the transition to NITA will not bring a change in who operates your bus or train, and all ADA Paratransit Certification, Ride Free and Reduced Fare programs, and the Access Program for riders experiencing low incomes will continue under NITA.

Last week, IDOT joined Governor JB Pritzker, state and local leaders to celebrate the grand opening of the Southern Illinois Multimodal Station (SIMMS) in Carbondale. This $26.2 million project brings together Amtrak, Greyhound, FlixBus, JAX Mass Transit, and other regional transit providers under one roof, making travel easier for 28 counties.

The new station features ADA-compliant platforms, improved lighting, electronic message boards, bike and pedestrian access, and a welcome center for Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Funded by federal, state, and city support, SIMMS is set to boost mobility, economic growth, and tourism across southern Illinois. Learn more: http://prez.ly/UCNd
