From parting ways at John Deere to running his own diversified trucking and spreading operation — Matt's founder story is the real deal.

He's rebuilt wrecked trucks down to the frame rails, bought totaled belt trailers for pennies on the dollar and bent them back straight, and learned the hard way when to grow and when to pull back to protect what matters most.

It's raw, it's honest, and it's exactly the kind of story owner-operators and small fleet owners need to hear. Watch the full episode 👇

He started a lease purchase program with one truck at O&S Trucking in 2005. Nobody knew his name. Retired in 2010 with 300 trucks. A work truck with style. Nobody in those seats would ever be mistaken for a company driver.

Guy comes in after 20 years driving. Confident he can do it better from the office. One day in front of the software and he is asking if his truck is still open. Some drivers cross over and excel. Some get back in the truck. Both are fine.

The banker showed the collateral form. Every brother passed. Wayne came back a week later alone. His brothers would work for him but not own it. Banker said he always paid his bills. He got the loan, got the truck, and renamed it Wayne Transports.

Wayne had two sayings. "If you don't keep it in the black I'll be back." And if you showed up with something fancy he would light a cigarette and say "Yep everybody oughta have two of them." Good to his people. Down to earth. Someone stayed 44 years because of it.

In 2018 they were pushing the CSA threshold on safe driving. Speeding 6 to 10 over. No hammers, just awareness. Every manager and dispatcher knew every speed score. Full transparency. Numbers improved within 30 days.

Started 40 years ago with 25 company trucks. Today 650 company trucks, 1,200 trailers, 900 plus with ELDs including owner-operators. He ran the numbers this morning. That is what four decades of doing it right looks like.

Plot twist: Rob bought a brand-new $1,200 trailer tool… and the first thing he did was box it right back up. 📦

Here's why — a fellow fleet owner talked Rob out of hard-mounting vi*****rs on his new bulk trailers. Hard-mounting a DDG trailer right means 4–6 units and close to $6,000.

One suction-cup unit runs ~$1,200 and moves wherever the product gets stuck, then stores away safe in a case.

New BulkLoads University video is up. Rob unboxes it, figures out how it actually works, and builds a driver-proof kit out of a bright orange Harbor Freight case so nothing walks off.

Everyone films the unboxing. Almost nobody shows you the reboxing — and that second part is what actually keeps a tool alive in a working fleet. In this one I...

In Leasing, if they succeed they tell 10 people. If they fail they tell 20. Rick Johnson says do the right thing and the money follows. Do it for the money and you will hate facing them — you took their truck and their wife cannot buy groceries.

Daytime lines at soy processing plants are bleeding money. Co-ops are now hiring third-party carriers for overnight self-unload runs and training them in. Producer, middle man, end user. Three categories. Those are the people paying your bills in bulk.

Built above kosher standards. Everyone laughed. Then Mars, Hills, and Blue Buffalo came on board. $50,000 parts washer, $50 a gallon rinse additives, overhead apparatus built from scratch. Nobody is laughing now.
