If the Supreme Court rules that brokers can be sued for negligent carrier selection, then we are essentially saying the Department of Transportation can certify a carrier as legal, authorized, and safe, and brokers should still second guess them. I find this to be a fascinating legal standard: full liability with zero authority. Carriers face roadside inspections, safety audits, compliance reviews, and enforcement by DOT officers, yet brokers, who cannot pull a truck over or inspect a brake drum, would somehow shoulder the blame? If trusting the federal safety rating is not enough, then the real question is not why brokers rely on DOT’s judgment, it is why the system expects us to pretend we know more than the people actually wearing the badges.

If Ch. Robinson loses this case I presume the next logical action is to Sue the Department of Transportation for negligence. 👀🤔🥳

We’re looking to connect with an embedded systems engineer or security-minded developer to review a connected hardware project that’s already functional and deployed, but now entering a refinement and security hardening phase.

The focus is on auditing and strengthening device-level security, both firmware and physical design. Experience with firmware partitions, OTA (over-the-air) updates, and protection against remote exploits or physical tampering would be ideal.

The project has been developed internally to this point, and we’re now looking for an additional set of credible eyes before the next phase of testing.

If you or someone you know specializes in embedded security and would be interested in collaborating on an innovative product, we’d love to hear from you.

Whats your edge ?

Freight has been tough for years, no sugarcoating it. Rates are tight, capacity is everywhere, and relationships matter more than ever.

If you’re a broker, carrier, or shipper trying to find an edge, here are some of my strategies that I don’t think get talked about enough:

📊 1. Study commodity-specific patterns, not general trends
Markets don’t move as “freight.”
They move in pockets; packaging, produce, plastics, industrial, resin, food-grade, pharmaceuticals, defense.
Become a master of one lane + commodity and build around it.

⌛ 2. Focus on time first not the rate
Shippers don’t pay for trucks.
They pay to protect production schedules and customer relationships.

Solve time and urgency → you stop competing on cents.

There will always be cheap, light, easy freight and the easier the move, the tighter your quote needs to be.

Example:
A 300-mile flatbed load with tarps is not the same as a 300-mile, 5,000-lb pallet of packaging material delivering same-day.
The value isn’t the distance, it’s the difficulty and time sensitivity.

🏗️ 3. Know the upstream players
Too many brokers call shippers.
Very few build relationships with suppliers, packaging plants, fulfillment centers, and co-packers.

(Upstream visibility = early access to freight before it hits the board. )

🛠️ 4. Offer a service stack, not a truck
Real edge today looks like:
• appointment setting
• inbound receiving coordination
• detention transparency
• real tracking (not “check calls dressed up”)
• proactive exception handling
Carriers and shippers remember who reduces friction not who always quotes cheapest.

🤝 5. Be the broker who defends BOTH sides
Protect your drivers like you protect your shippers. Carriers talk; Consistency wins you capacity long after pricing cycles flip.

The freight market will turn, it always does.
The people refining their edge now will own the rebound.

Lobbying for honesty, accountability, and safety in our transportation and logistics system has been one of the most meaningful efforts I have taken on. Safe roads, properly trained drivers, and fair industry standards aren’t partisan, they’re common sense and they protect families, workers, and communities. I won’t apologize for standing up for public safety or for an industry that does things the right way. Meaningful change is coming and we’re just getting started.

Will rates rebound in Q3 and Q4 despite all the economic indicators predicting otherwise ?

A first-quarter survey of shippers showed inventories are being drawn down and that a second-half freight recovery remains in play.
