Tuesday's Tip
Ever sewn with a plastic bag?
Recycle your plastic bags in the sewing room.
I have found a simple solution for taming fabrics that are difficult to sew! If fabrics such as batting, bulky or loose weave fabrics, faux fur, or hook and loop tape doesn't glide smoothly over the machine plate or gets stuck in the foot as i'm sewing use a plastic bag. I cut the bag to make it one layer, and if I have a lot of seams to sew, I cut the bag into strips 2 o 3 inches wide. Place the plastic on the top or beneath the fabric and sew normally stitching through the plastic. The plastic helps the fabric glide smoothly as the stitches are made, and a tug easily removes the plastic after the seam is sewn.
Happy sewing and quilting.
Be safe and stay healthy.

Tuesday tip
Here's a tip for removing threads and basting.Crochet hook to the rescue.
I have found that a crochet hook is great for removing threads, easing stitching threads and opening seams. Use a size 9 or smaller crochet hook. Use the rounded point to push under the stitch and the hook to remove the thread. This eliminates the danger of snagging the fabrics threads or accidentally cutting a hole in the fabric....both can happen with a seam ripper.
Have a great day and please maintain the recommended distance when you are out and about.

Tuesday tip on A Wednesday
You have probably been working on quilts or sewing for the last few months of social distancing. So, if your iron is in need of a little TLC or just plan gunked up, here is a great way to clean it.
If you've ever touched interfacing or synthetic fabrics with a hot iron. You're familiar with the sticky, messy residue that forms instantly on your iron's sole plate. I've found that rubbing the surface with a cloth or paper towel moistened with cooking oil cleans it very inexpensively. Rub the cooled iron plate until the surface is free of sticky residue. Than, wipe it with a cloth moistened with dish detergent or liquid soap. Finish with a wet cloth using water only. Before using the iron on good fabric, heat it up and run it over an old cloth a few times. This technique works well, and you don't have to purchase anything special.

On another note: Please stay safe and well during this terrible virus. Stay inside, enjoy and bond with the people you love. Call your friends. Check on your neighbor. Work a hobby . Do a puzzle. Keep yourself busy. And above, stay positive!
We all know that this will end.....we just don't know when. Until it does practice and apply the rules for safe distancing.

Have a good day!

Here's a simple tip!
Correction fluid to the rescue!
The glare from my sewing room lights make it difficult for me to clearly see the engraved seam guidlines on my sewing machine's throat plate and attachments. NOT ANY MORE
To solve the problem I filled the indented markings with white correction fluid and them wiped off the excess. Now, I can see the guidelines without diffiulty and my seams sew up quickly and are much more accurate.
Have a great day!
Please stay home and be safe.

Tuesday Tip!
Your beautiful quilt needs washing. OH NO WHAT TO DO! First don't panic!.
I like to wash quilts in warm water and cold rinse with a color catcher or two the first couple of washings (color catchers prevent fabric colors from bleeding into each other) Medium heat in the dryer or air dry. Your quilts will last for years to come.
Have a great day and check back every week.
