During the spring, you may have noticed crews working along the East Shore Trail inspecting the bridges.

These routine inspections are an important part of maintaining the safety and long-term reliability of the trail and its infrastructure. Crews evaluate bridge conditions and complete assessments to help ensure the East Shore Trail remains safe and enjoyable for everyone exploring Tahoe’s shoreline this season and beyond.

The Chimney Beach parking lot is officially OPEN as of today, Friday, May 22.

The new parking area includes approximately 130 spaces and is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety, access and the visitor experience along Tahoe’s East Shore.

As crews complete final improvements ahead of paid parking beginning June 1, visitors may still encounter active work zones, temporary traffic control and areas closed to the public. Please follow all posted signage, stay out of coned-off areas and use designated pathways and crossings.

Drivers should also be prepared for the new signalized pedestrian crosswalk on SR 28 and expect intermittent stops for pedestrians accessing trail connections and the parking area.

The parking lot will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Overnight parking is prohibited.

Paid parking begins June 1 at a daily rate of $12. Additional site improvements, including future restroom facilities and expanded amenities, are still to come.
