The City of Statesville NC is once again rallying the community to help local students start the school year prepared and ready to learn.

Beginning June 17 and continuing through July 24, residents are encouraged to donate school supplies at collection sites throughout the city. Donations will support the Village Intervention Partnership's (VIP) annual backpack giveaway during the ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐…๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Statesville Event Center.

The school supply drive aims to ease the financial burden on families while ensuring students have the tools they need for a successful school year. By working together, community members can help local students begin the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

Community members are encouraged to donate new school supplies such as:

The ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐…๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ, part of ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž'๐ฌ ๐€๐ฆ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŽ ๐‚๐ž๐ฅ๐ž๐›๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, honors the people, stories, and traditions that have shaped our community and our nation. The festival will feature historical exhibits, live entertainment, cultural displays, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to connect with local organizations.

As part of the festival, the City of Statesville's school supply drive will support the Village Intervention Partnership's (VIP) annual backpack giveaway, helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year. School supplies collected through the drive will be used to fill backpacks distributed to students and families attending the event.

By combining the school supply drive with the Statesville Heritage Festival, the city and its community partners are celebrating our shared history while investing in the next generation.

Residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for the ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐…๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐š๐ฅ on Saturday, August 1, at the Statesville Event Center. Additional details about the festival, exhibits, entertainment, and activities will be announced in the coming weeks.

Progress continues on the new terminal building at the Statesville Regional Airport!

The project is moving into the final stages, with exterior metal panels now on site and currently being installed, bringing the building closer to completion. A meeting with the exterior signage company is also scheduled for next week to finalize signage details for the terminal.

Inside the building, crews are working through several minor punch list items, and a final exterior punch walk will take place once the metal panel installation is complete.

A Sikorsky Skycrane dropped in at the Statesville Regional Airport to top off โ€“ and it definitely turned a few heads. This isnโ€™t your average helicopter. Originally used by the military to haul equipment like tanks, civilian versions now handle some of the toughest jobs out there:

๐ŸŒฒ Lifting massive trees off mountain tops
๐Ÿ—๏ธ Setting air-conditioning units on really tall buildings
๐Ÿšง Carrying loads up to 20,000 pounds

Thatโ€™s 20,000 poundsโ€ฆ picked up like itโ€™s no big deal.

Not a bad sight to see during a midweek airport stop!

Fraudulent emails are circulating about the March 26 Ribbon Cutting at the Statesville Regional Airport.

โ— There are NO vendor opportunities for this event.
โ— The City is NOT collecting vendor fees.

The scam emails request payment (around $200) through a Google Form ๐Ÿ’ป and are pretending to be event coordinators.

So far, they have come from Gmail accounts such as:
