✈️ This Day in Aviation History

On this day in 1933, aviator Wiley Post made history by becoming the first person to fly solo around the world. After traveling more than 15,000 miles in just over seven days, he landed back where his journey began, proving that long-distance air travel was entering a new era.

His record-setting flight remains one of aviation's greatest achievements and continues to inspire generations of pilots and explorers.

🛫 This Day in Aviation History

Before he became the first American to orbit Earth, John Glenn was already making history in the cockpit.

On July 16, 1957, Glenn flew a Vought F8U-1P Crusader from California to New York in just 3 hours, 23 minutes, setting the nation's first supersonic transcontinental air speed record. Nicknamed Project Bullet, the mission earned its name by averaging 725.55 mph—faster than the muzzle velocity of a .45-caliber bullet.

As if that wasn't enough, the flight also produced the first continuous panoramic photograph of the United States. A remarkable day that pushed the boundaries of aviation. ✈️
