A plane came in due to excessive magneto drops on both mags.
Upon removal of the spark plug leads, we found 5 of the 12 leads had the contact springs broken/eroded off.

After carefully removing the wings from this Piper PA-11 Cub Special for transport from an old grass field that fell into disrepair and being stored in a barn for 15 years. Our team repaired, restored, and reinstalled the wings, making sure everything is solid and airworthy, including replacing rusty aileron control cables.

From worn-out fabric to fresh repairs, we brought this vintage beauty back to life and airworthiness.

This whole project was an honor to get to work on. It has been great to work with the current owner of this bird, who has spoken of memories as a child flying in this with his grandfather.

Lots of work went into getting this plane back to being airworthy, including new cylinders, a significant amount of fabric skin work and repairing and replacing most of the fuel system.

An aircraft based on a neighboring field landed after declaring an emergency.
They had lost engine throttle control and landed at full throttle.
Further discussion with the pilot after the adrenaline wore off led to hearing this was the 3rd flight after having his carburetor replaced.
Our best guess is that the attaching hardware wasn't secured with a cotter pin, and the vibration of the engine worked the bolt and nut loose to the point where the bolt fell out.
Attention to detail matters, and having our guys double-check each other work is common practice.

We have been finding unapproved parts in quite a few aircraft lately.
The upper wheel bearing is a cheap bearing from who knows where, and the lower bearing is an approved wheel bearing for aircraft use.
There may never be an issue arise from an unapproved part, but if the NTSB and/or FAA get involved for even the small reason and find unapproved parts on an aircraft, there will surely be lots of questions and consequences. Approved parts have gone through testing and certification to be allowed on aircraft.
We recognize aircraft parts aren't cheap, but aircraft and aircraft occupent safety shouldn't put at risk to save a few $$$.
