Upcoming Airport Maintenance…🚨

Shiloh Airport main Runway 13/31 will be undergoing maintenance from October 12th until October 24th. This is the planned timeline for our contractor to come in and do the scheduled work to our runway.

They will be filling cracks on the runway and ramp areas. They will also be repainting the runway as well. This will mean that aircraft movement on the ground is very limited without coordination. Runway movement is for emergency use only.

This is all weather dependent. Currently we are looking at a solid two weeks of work and if the weather interferes with that then it will obviously be pushed back.

RUNWAY CLOSURE: the runway will be closed from 7am to 7pm Monday-Friday for the next two weeks. You can use the runway after that. Saturday and Sundays they will not be working unless they are put a day behind due to weather.

TENANTS: Please refrain from using the runway during times of maintenance. This will allow the contractor to complete the maintenance in an orderly timeframe. If you need to use the runway for emergency only, pleas contact the Airport Manager, as soon as possible.

NOTAMs will be in place as well as a message on our AWOS to alert aircrew of the airports intended closure and times of closure.

It’s crazy to think this was two years ago…

Hurricane Helene, one if not the most deadliest hurricanes to hit the United States made its way up the North Carolina and hit us right where it hurt the most. Where the most damage could be done. Where people were trapped for weeks upon months.

People were lost during this hurricane. Buried in mud never to be seen again, swept away in the raging rapids that was caused from the massive mud slides.

When this happened, I was just a private pilot working on my instrument rating. I wanted to help. So I started in my own doing flights over to the mountains dropping off supplies. I would usually do one a day and I did that for two weeks straight.

A Facebook group called “CAN” (Carolina Aviators Network) jumped right into action. They setup a drop off point in I know of three locations, Raleigh, Greensboro, Hickory. Now there was a lot more drop off points all over the state, that’s just the big ones I know.

From there, the pilots flew to those spots, picked up supplies and then flew them into the areas where people couldn’t get out because roads were washed away. In Hickory, they had a base where people would call about their loved ones, give their last known location and they would send out helicopters to go find them. Almost all of the helicopters were private owners. Civil Air Patrol also assisted in search and rescue as did NCSHP Aviation Division.

We had I believe 8 or 10 people from our airport participate in this. This will forever be the best thing I’ve done in aviation.

This is exactly why airports play a vital role in the world. When people can’t get out, we can sometimes come in and assist.

Please take these words as my own, aviation is what brings communities together, we help our neighbors even though we don’t know them. We all get through it together, one flight at a time.

Army National Guard out of Raleigh payed us a friendly visit, in the process, also scared the crap out of the whole neighborhood.

People thought World War III was happening at Shiloh. 😂

Who’s ready??? We are 40 days away!!! We will have vendors, food trucks, helicopter and airplane rides, a cruise-in and a ton of beautiful aircraft on display! This will be our best event yet!!!
