We are finally crazy 🤪 and a little cuckoo 😜!
A day trip to see the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an China 🇨🇳 just because we are crazy 🤪!
I always wanted to see the Terracotta Warriors which are part of China’s first Emperador Mausoleum (Qin Shi Huang , Qin Dynasty), and the looooooong day trip was so worth it!
We took an early morning bullet train 🚄 from Beijing to Xi’an that last 4.5 hours, then our tour guide picked us up and took us at 1.5 hours drive to the Archeological site. At this point we have been traveling for over 6.5 hours before we can even see the warriors. Once we reached the Archeological Site we walked over mile, went through different security points and finally got to the first pit.
The first pit of the site are the Terracota Warriors army which were there to protect the Emperor in his after life. I was not prepared for the size of that site and the amount of warriors (around 2000 of them). It was huge and very impressive! It was filled with warriors, chariots, weapons and horses. All of the statues are made of terracotta, all of them different from each other in face expression, hair, formation position, shape, rank, etc… just like a regular army!
The site where the warriors are located at, is just one part of the 98 square kilometers necropolis active archeological site. These warriors are over 2100 years old and it is estimated that are around 8,000 of them (most of them still buried underground). Most of the warriors are found in pieces (like a big puzzle without instructions) and it takes around 3 years to put one of them together. Most of the area has not been excavated yet due to many reasons including preservation concerns.
These warriors were discovered in 1974 by a farmer when he was digging a water well. We had the amazing opportunity to meet the farmer 🧑🌾 who found the warriors, talked to him, get his autograph ✍️, take some pictures and we even bought his book. Everybody knows how much I love ❤️ history and ancient civilizations, so having the opportunity to meet a living piece of history who discovered a site over 2100 years old was absolutely remarkable.
Here is the crazy 🤪 part! We did not spent the night in Xi’an. We drove back from the site 1.5 hours to the bullet train station 🚉, boarded a 4.5 hours train 🚆 to Beijing, took a taxi 🚕 to the hotel (35 min) and got back to the hotel 🏨 after midnight 🕛! It was a very long day but it was completely worth it. We spent in total over 13 hours just in transportation 🚕🚊🚘 to make it to the Archeological site and get back to the hotel 🏨. It is an adventure that it was amazing but I’ll probably recommend my clients to spend the night and really enjoy the area.
