The Matthew Lane Hobby Foundation

The Matthew Lane Hobby Foundation Formerly known as Made with Love and Hope. Matthew was a gifted young musician with a generous spirit and a deep care for others.

The Matthew Lane Hobby Foundation is a nonprofit organization created in memory of Matthew Lane Hobby, sharing resources that support suicide prevention awareness, mental health education, and community outreach. At The Matthew Lane Hobby Foundation, our mission is rooted in remembrance, compassion, and a commitment to raising awareness around mental health and suicide prevention. This initiative

was created in memory of Matthew Lane Hobby, whose life continues to inspire purposeful action and meaningful conversation. After his passing, his family sought a way to transform grief into something life-affirming — a way to honor Matthew while helping others feel seen, supported, and less alone. Over time, our mission has grown beyond its origins, sharing resources and initiatives that encourage awareness, education, and open dialogue around mental health. Through community engagement and purposeful outreach, we seek to reduce stigma and foster understanding. As our mission continues to evolve, we remain grounded in the belief that every life has value and that hope can be cultivated through connection, compassion, and intentional action.

💛 Weekly Coloring Pages — Week 05

“You Are Allowed to Take Your Time”

Not everything needs to happen quickly.

Some seasons require rest.
Some moments require patience.
And sometimes healing, growth, or clarity take longer than we expect.

You do not have to rush your way through difficult days in order to be moving forward.

This week’s coloring page is a gentle reminder that your pace does not determine your worth.

You are allowed to take your time.

Caring for others can be meaningful and deeply compassionate.

But even the people who support, encourage, and care for others every day need space to rest and breathe, too.

Our newest blog reflects on the quiet weight that caregiving can sometimes carry — and the importance of recognizing that caregivers are human too.

This month, we’ll be focusing on caring for the caregivers:
• burnout
• compassion fatigue
• emotional exhaustion
• sustainable care and support

You are not alone in those experiences.

💙 June is Men’s Mental Health Month 💙

Some struggles are easy to see.

Others are carried quietly.

This month is an opportunity to recognize something that often goes unspoken: men experience mental health challenges too.

Men experience stress.
Men experience anxiety.
Men experience depression.
Men experience grief.
Men experience trauma.
Men experience loneliness.

And sometimes, they carry those burdens without telling anyone.

For many men, asking for help can feel difficult. Messages about being “strong” or handling things alone can make it harder to reach out when support is needed most.

But strength is not the absence of struggle.

Strength can be having an honest conversation.
Strength can be checking in with a trusted friend.
Strength can be speaking with a counselor.
Strength can be saying, “I’m not okay.”

This month, take a moment to check in with the men in your life—the fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and mentors who may be carrying more than others realize.

And if you’re a man who is struggling right now:

You matter.

Your life matters.

You do not have to carry everything alone.

Caring for others can be meaningful, compassionate, and deeply important.

But even the people who show up for others every day need care too.

Sometimes strength looks like continuing to carry responsibilities.
Sometimes it looks like recognizing when you need rest, support, or space to breathe.

Taking care of yourself does not diminish the care you give to others. In many ways, it helps sustain it.

As we move into a new month, we’re holding space for the quiet reminder that caregivers, helpers, supporters, and listeners are human too.

You matter too.

Sometimes we don’t need a breakthrough.
We just need a beginning.

Not a big, life-changing moment—
just a quiet decision to take one step.

It may not feel like much.
It may not look like progress from the outside.

But small steps matter.
They always have.

If today feels heavy,
you don’t have to figure everything out.

Just take one small step.

That is enough.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t the journey—
it’s just getting started.

When everything feels like too much,
we can start to believe that if we can’t do everything,
there’s no point in doing anything.

But that’s not how progress works.

It’s one step.
One small step.

And sometimes, that step is simply choosing to begin again.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re sharing gentle reminders from our coloring page collection—small moments to pause, reflect, and move forward at your own pace.

Today we’re celebrating someone very special to our Foundation.

Happy Birthday, Karin!💛

Karin is one of our Founding Directors and serves as our Secretary—but more than that, she has been part of this mission from the very beginning.

From long days in the kitchen to quiet, steady support behind the scenes, she has helped shape what The Matthew Lane Hobby Foundation has become today.

Her heart for others is evident in everything she does—whether she’s teaching, baking, serving, or simply making someone feel seen and valued.

This cake was created a few years ago with her love of birdwatching in mind—a small reflection of the care and thoughtfulness she brings into the lives of others every day.

We’re grateful for you, Karin, and the light you bring to this work.

Sometimes we don’t need answers.
We just need space to think.

To slow down long enough to notice what we’re carrying…
and what we might need.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we’ve been sharing reflections around rest, support, and taking things one step at a time.

If you’re looking for a quiet moment to reflect, we’ve gathered these thoughts in one place.

Today is a day of remembrance.

A day to honor those who gave their lives in service…
and to hold space for the weight that kind of sacrifice carries.

For many, today can bring a mix of emotions —
gratitude, reflection, grief, and everything in between.

If today feels heavy, you don’t have to carry all of that at once.

You don’t need to have the words.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.

Sometimes the only thing that matters…
is taking the next step.

Gently.
At your own pace.

As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, this is your reminder:

Taking care of yourself is part of moving forward.
