Scotland 🏴 Days 6 and 7: Inverness. Considered to be the capital of the Highlands, Inverness reached city status in 2000. Locals, however, still refer to it as a town. Small enough to be walkable but large enough to offer a little something for everyone. Shops, restaurants, museums and a castle. The area also boasts must see places. Including Culloden Battlefield, the site of the famous battle between the Jacobites and the British army in 1746, which decimated the Jacobites and effectively ended the Clan way of life. Clava Cairns is nearby the battlefield and is a collection of stone circles built thousands of years ago, primarily used for burial sites. There’s also Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle. Jacobite Cruises offers a wonderful loch cruise and time to explore the castle ruins.
