⛽️ WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH DIESEL?

We all remember 2022.

We had a highest spike of fuel prices in 2022 when the world was reopening after COVID. Freight, manufacturing, construction, and travel were recovering quickly. Diesel demand rose sharply, especially from trucking and rail. But fuel production had not recovered at the same speed. Then Russia’s invasion of Ukraine created another major shock across global oil and diesel markets.

By June 2022, the U.S. average diesel price had climbed to $5.81 per gallon.
At the time, it felt extreme.

Now look at where we are today. And who’s in charge of it?

On August 10, 2026, the U.S. average diesel price was $5.257/gal.
Just five weeks later, on September 14: $6.285/gal.
And remember — that’s the national average.
In parts of the East Coast, drivers are already seeing $7+ per gallon while on the West Coast prices reaching $8+ /gal.

That is an increase of approximately:

+$1.03 per gallon
+19.6%
IN JUST FIVE WEEKS.

And here is the part that should get the attention of everyone in trucking:

The 2022 national peak was $5.81.
Today we’re at $6.285.
And what is important, at the same time the rates are not going up!!!

We aren’t approaching the fuel prices we saw during the 2022 crisis.
We’ve already passed them!

For truck drivers and owner-operators, every additional dollar at the pump goes straight into the cost of keeping that truck moving.

So maybe the biggest question isn’t what happened over the last five weeks.

It’s:

If diesel increased almost 20% in five weeks…
What should truck drivers expect five weeks from now?
