Welcome to Sumter School District! Kenneth Rawls, who has an extensive background in construction and construction management, is joining Sumter School District as a Project Manager. Previously, he served as the Director of Facilities Management for the School District of Newberry County and Construction Manager for Richland County School District One. Prior to joining the Districts, Kenneth was a Construction Project Manager for Southern Management Group overseeing many K-12 projects and coordinating with the Office of Schools & Facilities (OSF). Most recently, he served as Chief of Operations for the School District of Newberry County.

Welcome to Sumter School District! Kelly Clark Brown, a proud graduate of Sumter High School, returns home to serve as Deputy Superintendent for Sumter School District. With more than 20 years of experience in public education, Brown has served in a variety of roles including middle school teacher and high school Assistant Administrator in Richland School District 2. She has served as an elementary Assistant Principal and Principal, Student Services Officer, and Director of Student Services for School District 5 of Lexington and Richland Counties.

Throughout her career, Brown has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, school safety, leadership development, and building positive school cultures. Her experience includes overseeing student services initiatives, threat assessment programs, attendance systems, professional development, and community partnerships that support both students and educators.

Brown earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications and her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. She also holds an Education Specialist degree from Capella University. In addition to her district leadership roles, she currently serves as Vice-President of the International Association for Truancy and Dropout Prevention.

As she returns to her hometown community, Brown is honored to serve the students, families, and staff of Sumter School District while continuing her passion for educational excellence and student achievement.

🚌 Bates Middle School Summer School Bus Route Information 🚌

Hello Bates Families!

FYI - Bates’ students that are eligible for summer school (parents and students have already been notified) will attend the Alice Drive Middle School location for summer school.

Summer school is Monday through Thursday, and it begins on Monday June 1st and will continue through Thursday, June 25th. The time is 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Please review the Summer School Bus Route for Bus 508 driven by L. Thomas.

⏰ Important Reminder: The bus route will begin no later than 6:15 a.m. each day. Please note that arrival times at individual stops may vary based on the number of students riding each day. We encourage students to be at their designated bus stop at least 10 minutes early.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe and efficient transportation experience for all students.
