Sharing a story from FreightWaves about the truckload linehaul rate index nearing a three-year high in February.

We are heading in the right direction. After being in a freight recession for quite some time, it’s a positive sign that the market may finally be starting to pull its way back.

That said, the cost of doing business across the trucking industry is still through the roof, so there is still a long way to go before things truly normalize.

For now, though, up is a lot better than down.

Monthly data from Cass Information Systems showed truckload rates continued to climb in February, even as freight volumes remained pressured.

Sharing this FreightWaves story about a Russian-linked hacking group stealing over 1,600 login credentials. Cybersecurity is becoming just as important as compliance and safety in our industry. As trucking and logistics start to show signs of a comeback, it feels like we keep facing pressure from every direction.

Protecting our systems, our customers’ data, and our freight has to be a priority. Stronger security standards, better oversight, and accountability across the board will only make the industry stronger in the long run.

The more we reduce vulnerabilities, whether that’s weak logins, unsecured systems, or risky operational practices, the better positioned American companies and workers will be to thrive. Let’s hope the focus stays on tightening up processes and protecting the businesses that keep freight moving.

A Russian-run crime group compromised more than 1,600 freight credentials across North America and Europe, a report says.

FreightWaves is highlighting the volatility we’re seeing in the truckload market right now. Expedite hasn’t gone consistently crazy yet, largely because shippers and truckload carriers are still stepping in to cover some expedited freight. That said, the market is shifting in a positive direction for expedite carriers, and we’re starting to see the early signs of tightening capacity and stronger opportunities ahead.

Carriers are rejecting more than 13% of tendered truckload shipments.

Winter Storm Fern is already sending rates sky high across multiple markets. While opportunities are strong, safety always comes first. Be careful out there, give yourself the time and space you need, and don’t take unnecessary risks. The freight will still be there when the roads are safe.

Nationwide tender rejections are at 11.5%.

We are feeling it for sure. Capacity is tight and we are able to get great rates for the drivers willing to go out on the road.

Sharing an article about Landstar being ordered to pay a $23 million accident verdict. These “nuclear verdicts” continue to pile up and are a major factor behind rising insurance costs across the industry. Even safe carriers with strong safety records end up sharing in the increased premiums as the market absorbs these losses. At the same time, shippers are still pushing to keep transportation costs down. The industry feels like it’s at a breaking point, and this is one of many signs that the freight recession may be nearing a turning point.

Freight broker Landstar System will record several accident-related charges in the fourth quarter.

“I’m not sure this will matter right away. For now, I think cash is still king. Just like shippers and brokers are chasing better rates, relationships only go as far as the rates will allow. Until the market truly tightens and stabilizes, carriers are going to follow the money first. We’ll see how things progress as demand comes back.”

Sharing an article projecting a surge in freight volumes in 2026. While some sectors may be seeing early signs of growth, in the expedited market volumes still feel relatively flat, with strong loads popping up from time to time. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for that projected increase to be felt across all sectors of transportation.

Spot market activity surged in the first full week of January as freight volumes snapped back after the New Year’s holiday. Data from FTR shows load postings jumped 96.7%, reaching the highest level since last May’s Roadcheck week. Flatbed freight led the rebound, with volume up more than 150%, while dry van and re**er loads also moved higher.

Even with stronger demand, broker-posted spot rates slipped as trucks returned to the market. Total rates fell just over nine cents, with dry van and refrigerated rates seeing the largest pullbacks after several weeks of gains. Flatbed rates, however, continued to rise, extending their post-holiday climb.

The latest numbers point to a return to normal seasonal patterns, with weather and capacity expected to drive short-term swings in the weeks ahead.

North Carolina being busted for illegally granting commercial driver licenses is just one example of an issue that’s happening across the country. As enforcement tightens and improperly issued CDLs are pulled, capacity is going to shrink. On the expedite side, this will likely have a significant impact, especially for time-critical freight where qualified, compliant drivers are essential.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy threatened to withhold $50 million from North Carolina after an audit found the state illegally issued over half of its foreign driver CDLs.
