The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) will increase the capacity of the existing Lee Roy Selmon Expressway to 6-lanes (one additional lane in each direction) to help meet anticipated growth. The South Selmon Capacity Project will address current and future congestion challenges, enhance roadway safety and help keep cut-through traffic off Bayshore Boulevard and other neighborhood roads. THEA is committed to engaging in ongoing communication with neighborhood residents, businesses, and community stakeholders.

Here's what to expect:

📍 Temporary lane shifts and signal changes

Wed. 10/21 to Thur. 10/22 (8:00 PM – 6:00 AM):
🚧 EB / WB Right and Left Lane and Shoulder on Selmon SR 618 (S Plant Ave to S Morgan St limits)

The middle lane will remain open during this work. As always, please be sure to stay alert and use extra caution when driving through work zones.

Drill shaft work begins as early as October 9 along the embankment just south of the Selmon Expressway between South Hyde Park Ave. and South Blvd.

This work is expected to take 3–5 days and will run 8 AM–5 PM.

No closures are expected during this work.

Before construction begins at Joseph Frye Park in Downtown Tampa, THEA crews carefully removed shrubs and plantings so they can be replanted elsewhere.

Parks like this matter to our community, so we save trees and vegetation wherever we can. Restoring the landscape is part of the project and our long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.

Dry ponds play an important role in managing stormwater.

These areas are designed to temporarily hold excess rainwater after a storm, helping control runoff and reduce the risk of flooding. Ponds gradually drain so they are ready for the next storm.

It may look empty, but it’s working.
