Keene's Transfer Keene's Transfer is a family owned company with 40 freight trucks and 200 trailers. He then progressed into hauling cattle, wood, sand, gravel, and fresh fruit.

Keene's Transfer was started in 1932 when Richard Keene sold his family car to help buy his first truck. Richard started out hauling workers to the Mather, WI area to work on clearing brush and fire lanes as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's "New Deal". Richard began growing his fleet during the 1940's and began servicing the Minneapolis and Chicago areas. In the 1950's Keene's entered the household goods moving business and became an agent for American Red Ball. The 1960's saw the addition of several mail routes for the company from points between Milwaukee and Spooner. The 1970's brought an era of construction as 5 new warehouses were built and the company expanded into the warehousing/leasing business. Also during this decade Keene's became an agent for Bekins Van Lines. During the 1980's the company outgrew its original downtown location and moved into Tomah's industrial park. A washbay facility and new offices were added in the 1990's. Today the fleet consists of over 40 tractors and 200 trailers covering the Midwest and Southern United States.

Day 6 of NTDAW leads us to Larry Bernd. Larry applied at Keene's in 2010 on the referral of a friend driving at Keene's. Soon after Larry was rolling down the highway in a Keene green Kenworth. In has spare time Larry enjoys working on classic cars, camping, and riding his Harley. Thank you Larry for 16 years of dedication and safe driving!

On day 5 on NTDAW we feature Mike Rhea. Mike has 29 years with Keene's and in his driving career he has logged over 3 million accident free miles. When Mike is off the road he enjoys hunting, fishing, and metal detecting. We are very appreciative of Mike's dedication, hard work, and focus on safety.

As NTDAW continues, today we shine the spotlight on Chris Dahl. Chris started at Keene's in 1994 as a diesel mechanic and occasional driver. In 2018 Chris hung up the wrenches and went to driving full time. Chris is dedicated, eager to work, and has a flawless safety record. When not on 18 wheels, you will often find him on 2 wheels, enjoying rides on his Harley. Thank you Chris for being an important part of our success for the last 32 years!

WMCA 1st place winner! Keene's Transfer was awarded the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association Division 3 winner award for highway safety in 2025 at the annual convention in Delavan on September 10. Keene's drivers logged over 2.6 million Wisconsin miles in 2025 with zero accidents. We are extremely appreciative and proud of our drivers and all staff that worked so hard for this accomplishment!
