As the moderator of this page, I was fortunate enough to know Alex during my training at Snohomish Flying Service. From general chit chat at the front desk to gaining some knowledge during flights with him, Alex was awesome!! The world has lost a great person!!

We are heartbroken by the loss of our friend, and Skydive Snohomish family member, Alex Keen.

Alex was a huge part of our team, our dropzone, the aviation community here at Harvey Airfield, and our daily lives. His loss is deeply felt by everyone here.

We remained closed for operations today as our staff, friends, and community gathered together to support one another and begin processing this unimaginable loss.

We kindly ask for grace and patience as we work through messages, emails, and phone calls over the coming days. We plan to resume operations tomorrow, Thursday, May 14th.

Thank you for continuing to hold Alex’s loved ones and our community in your thoughts. His spirit will remain with us forever.

We are excited to announce that the annual Fathers Day Fly In will be taking place at Tonasket Airport Fathers Day Weekend, June 20-21st 2026. We are late in getting the message out after some logistical issues came about with the City. However, through a collaboration of efforts between the City and the Tonasket Airport Improvement Club, we are able to move forward with the Fly In! More info and flyer coming soon!!

Don’t underestimate the usefulness of rural airports!!

🌾✈️ When the county proposed closing the airstrip,
the town voted 71% in favor.
Nobody uses it.
Waste of money.
Too small for anything real.
The remaining 29% said: "Wait.
You don't see what we see."
In the past 5 years alone:
A mercy flight that saved a diabetic woman who couldn't make it to the hospital by road.
A crop duster who saved 4 farms from an aphid outbreak.
A bush pilot who flew a premature baby to a NICU in a storm.
A volunteer pilot who flew blood supplies during a winter road closure.
A Young Eagles event that gave 34 kids their first flight.
Three business owners who flew in investors from the city.
A grieving father who flew his son's ashes over the county.
The list went on.
The 29% read it at the council meeting.
The council went silent.
The chairwoman: "We didn't know about any of this."
29%: "Because these people don't make noise.
They just fly when they're needed.
And they're needed more than you think."
The vote to close failed.
The strip stayed open.
It still sits there, quiet and unnoticed.
Until it isn't.
