【🏮A Dreamlike Summer Night in Akita🏮】

Held every year from August 5 to August 7 in Yuzawa City, the Tanabata Edoro Festival is a historic and elegant summer festival said to have originated from a Kyoto princess who married into Akita and decorated tanzaku paper strips while longing for her hometown.

During the festival, giant illuminated “Edoro” lanterns featuring graceful ukiyo-e-style women line the streets. Each lantern is painted by a different artist, creating a unique atmosphere throughout the town. Their rich colors and elegance captivate visitors every summer evening.

Visitors can also enjoy free yukata dressing, Japanese taiko drum performances, bijin-ga coloring experiences, delicious local foods at the Tanabata Yokocho festival area, and traditional Tanabata dancing performances.

The Tazawako Ryujin Festival will take place on July 25, 2026, at Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture.

This unique summer festival is inspired by the local legend of Princess Tatsuko and Hachirotaro, two mythical figures connected to Lake Tazawa. Visitors can experience traditional performances and the mystical atmosphere of one of Akita’s best-known legends. ✨

With a depth of 423.4 meters, Lake Tazawa is the deepest lake in Japan. During summer, visitors can also enjoy swimming, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) surrounded by beautiful lakeside scenery. 🚣‍♀️🌿

Since February 2026, a special collaboration train featuring the beloved Japanese character Monchhichi has been running on the line! 🐵✨

Originally created in Japan in 1974, Monchhichi has been loved by fans around the world for generations.

Monchhichi wearing a special Tokyo Panorama Line outfit welcomes passengers onboard, while the train interior introduces travel tips and destinations along the route.

You can also ride the Tokyo Monorail using the JR EAST PASS and JR TOKYO Wide Pass.

The Tohoku Kizuna Festival takes place in Morioka on May 23–24, 2026.

Located in northern Japan, Morioka can be reached from Tokyo Station in approximately 2 hours 10 minutes by Tohoku Shinkansen 🚅

This special annual event brings together six famous festivals from across northern Japan in one city for one weekend only. Every year, the festival is hosted in a different city and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors.
