I have been flying professionally since 2003. I have had the privilege to fly amazing people across Alaska in some pretty special aircraft. I enjoyed my time flying the Dehaviland Beaver, the Norseman, U-206, C185, Helio Courier, Husky, and the Supercubs. But this fall was some of the most fun flying in the highly modified Maule M7 we call “Birch Syrup”.
My strips felt easy this year using this plane. It was easier to land, easier to take off with a load, easier on approach in gusty winds, just easier all around.
At this point in my career I like having enough margin for things to feel easy:)
The FAA is not always easy to work with but they have been working with us to help get these modifications to the Maule that add some margin into a very unforgiving environment and I am grateful to have been able to fly one of these planes this season.
