Traverse Area Paddle Club

Traverse Area Paddle Club A group of people who enjoy paddling local rivers and lakes. The TAPC welcomes canoeists and kayakers in northwestern lower Michigan.

The Traverse Area Paddle Club (TAPC), renamed in 2009, was founded in 1999 as the Cherry Capital Paddle America Club. We have numerous events scheduled for all levels of paddling experience. Our outings are intended for TAPC members. Non-members may peruse the outings calendar, but often will not be able to see the details of the specific outings, or to sign up for the trips. If you notice an even

t that will be taking place while you're visiting the TC area (or you just want to try us out), contact the trip host or the Outings Coordinator, and we will see if we can find a place for you. The TAPC is a local independent paddling club, and we strive to keep the cost as low as possible for members. Currently, the cost of membership (per calendar year) is $20 for an individual, and $30 for a family. If you join from September through December, your membership is good for the following calendar year. After you join online and your payment is received, you may sign up for any trip. Visit our club website www.traverseareapaddleclub.org to see our outings calander and join the club!

We are starting a series of Wednesday Night “Just Show Up” Paddles:
Mellow, informal, easy leisure paddles on local lakes to get to know fellow paddlers. We paddle for 1 – 1 ½ hours. Bring your boat, life jacket, and paddle. Canoes, recreational kayaks, sea kayaks, etc. welcome. These trips will cancel for rain or high winds. Typically, some of the participants will go out for dinner or drinks afterwards. Starting time is 6pm.

June 11
Join us at 6:00 pm for an evening paddle on Ellis Lake, between Grawn and Interlochen. Ellis Lake is a small lake with a public launch at the end of Ellis Lake Road, off of 31. The lake has a creek that runs under 31 and connects to Tonawanda Lake to the south, as part of the greater Betsie River watershed. The creek can be explored for a short distance for the more adventurous in the group.

Our club is planning a cleanup trip on the Pine River this coming Thursday, from Dobson to Peterson. We could use a few more experienced paddlers who'd like to help out. We will provide watercraft permits, parking passes, and if you like, you can even use a free rental boat. Contact me if you would like to join us. For details, see

Our club has already posted 29 outings for this season (see the Trip Reports), and there are 20 upcoming trips on the calendar. Just today three new outings were posted. Many of our events are limited to TAPC members only (they tend to have limited capacities for safety reasons). It's only $15 ($25 for a family), with shuttle and permit fees are paid by the club treasury. Come join us!

There are several cleanup trips scheduled on the Boardman River (and others) in the next few weeks; check out the event calendar below. Each trip is open to non-TAPC members, but you must register beforehand, so we can plan for shuttles.

We have noticed that there are lots of FB folks who "like" the TAPC, and we would encourage you to join our ranks. This year, so far, we have offered 28 events (including 10 cleanup trips), and there are 13 outings posted on our calendar for the next few weeks. Usually there are over 100 trips each year, and many are open only to club members. Trips get added often, and capacities are limited. Our dues are only $15 ($25 for a family), so come join in the fun!

New outings are being added almost daily; check out our Event Calendar, and be aware that some trips are open only to TAPC members. Cleanup trips are usually open to anyone, though!
