You’re already juggling World Cup tickets, hotel check-in times, game-day transportation, and keeping everyone fed.

Then you see the headline: Enhanced Ebola screening at U.S. airports.

Your family’s flying into Atlanta in two weeks.

Now what?

Before you panic:

This does not affect most families traveling for the World Cup.

Enhanced screening is now at:

✈️ Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
✈️ George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston)
✈️ Washington Dulles International Airport

But it only applies to travelers entering the U.S. who were recently in: • Democratic Republic of the Congo
• Uganda
• South Sudan

Specifically, travelers in one of those countries within the previous 21 days.

What screening involves for affected travelers: • Brief travel and symptom questionnaire
• Non-contact temperature check
• Observation for signs of illness
• Possible public health follow-up if needed

For families flying into Atlanta, Houston, or Dulles from Europe, South America, or elsewhere for the World Cup?

You are not being tested for Ebola at the airport.

You may see screening stations set up. You may notice additional staff near arrivals.

But unless you were recently in Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan, this does not change your entry process.

The CDC reports: • No confirmed U.S. cases linked to this outbreak
• Risk to general U.S. public remains low

Here’s what I tell every family traveling during a public health event:

Don’t plan based on headlines. Check the actual requirement. Know who it applies to. Make decisions based on facts, not fear.

One more thing:

Build in extra buffer time at the airport anyway.

Not because of Ebola screening. Because international arrivals during major events are already congested.

The families who stress less don’t cut it close.

Save this if you’re traveling to the U.S. for the World Cup.

We were already traveling as a family.

Belize with extended family. Hawaii. Mexico multiple times. Constant road trips for swim meets.

Spending $6,000+ per year on trips we saved for all year long.

Then on a cruise to Mexico, I overheard a conversation that stopped me cold.

A dad advocating for his autistic teenage son at a specialty restaurant. The son wanted chicken tenders. He was over 12, so staff wouldn’t let him order from the kids’ menu.

The dad was doing everything he could to keep his son regulated and still make him feel seen.

I watched that whole interaction.

And I thought: Families like his shouldn’t have to fight for accessibility on vacation.

I’m a COTA. I’ve worked with kids and families navigating sensory and accessibility needs for 26 years.

And I realized I could use that exact skillset to help families plan travel that actually works for them.

So I got certified as an Autism Travel Planner and Accessible Cruise Planner.

And I started booking trips.

Not just for us. For other families.

Within two months, my first two bookings covered my entire business cost for the year.

I didn’t stop working as a Clinical Director yet.

But I also didn’t have to work two weekends a month anymore just to afford one family trip.

Because now? Every trip I plan for another family contributes to the trips I take with mine.

Since then, we’ve been to Belize twice. Alaska. Mexican Riviera. Incredible hotels across the US.

And I don’t miss my daughters’ swim meets anymore.

I wake up past 5am on weekends.

I’m building something that lets me actually show up for my family while helping other families do the same.

We were already traveling.

I just learned how to turn it into a business.

Save this if you’ve ever wondered what it would look like to get paid for something you’re already doing. 💙
