Photo is of a BRAND NEW chair seat from an online retailer that is filled with trash from a factory floor. Often when I send an estimate I will get the response "it's cheaper to just buy a new chair!". Yes, it very well may be cheaper for you to buy an inexpensive chair online but keep in mind what you get with a new chair vs upholstering an existing chair. New chair: You get trendy fabric choices, often a print that is not matched during application but overall it looks okay because it's a cute print right? It comes in a box on your porch delivered right to you and you get to put it together with Allen screws and bolts and even comes with the tools so you can keep tightening up the pieces when they loosen with use, even better! It's lightweight to save on shipping and the shipping was free and hey, that just makes it easier to move around your house or carry it to the dumpster when it falls apart.
Upholstering an existing chair: You get to choose a good, quality fabric that can be trendy or timeless depending on how often you want to reupholster this particular piece. Fabric that is artfully applied with attention detail. You get something made of wood that is solid and heavy and made from high quality materials from the inside out. The joints are glued using dowels and expert joinery. You know it won't be filled with trash and scraps from the floor of a factory. In the end you get a piece of furniture that when you decide to change decor, move or downsize you can pass down to the next generation instead of adding to a landfill.
Yes, buying new is cheaper but reupholstering is much more valuable to our history and our planet than simply spending $199 or more for chair to get free shipping.
