A sad update from the Great Allegheny Passage: We’re deeply sorry to hear that the Oct. 17 landslide near Connellsville took the life of one bicyclist and injured another. Our thoughts are with their loved ones, and we wish the injured rider strength and a full recovery.

As of Oct. 20, the GAP is CLOSED between mile markers 87 (Sheepskin Trail junction) and 89 (Connellsville). Please do not enter this section.

Riders can detour via Sheepskin Trail:
• From Ohiopyle: Ride to MM87, turn left onto Sheepskin Trail and continue 2 miles to Dunbar. Arrange a shuttle from Dunbar to Yough River Park in Connellsville.
• In reverse: Meet at Yough River Park near MM89, shuttle to Dunbar, ride 2 miles on Sheepskin Trail, then turn right onto the GAP.

The initial organized shuttle ran Oct. 18–21. From Oct. 22 onward, arrange directly with a GAP shuttle provider and confirm service before you leave.

In August, the National Park Service proposed a rule to expand bicycle and e-bike access across the National Park System. The proposal could streamline approvals and set a clearer baseline for e-bike use on park roads, parking areas, and trails. It’s a proposal, not a green light for every route. Local park rules still matter.

✅ Bring water, a helmet, repair essentials, and layers for changing weather.
✅ Plan your range with the terrain, assist level, and a safe battery reserve in mind.

E-bike batteries are evolving, and we’re keeping an eye on what’s next. ⚡🚲

The first semi-solid-state e-bike packs are reaching customers, with manufacturers touting lower fire risk, around 30% longer life, and more range in a smaller pack. Promising tech, but claims and performance vary by product.

For today’s rides, good battery habits still matter: use the manufacturer-approved charger, follow the bike maker’s charging and storage instructions, keep the battery away from excessive heat and moisture, and stop using it if it’s damaged or unusually hot. When in doubt, ask a pro.

The 27 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage through Ohiopyle State Park have reopened after flood damage. A huge THANK YOU to the park crews and trail volunteers who worked hard to get this stretch back open for everyone to enjoy!

Planning a longer ride? The stretch near Kennywood is still closed, with a shuttle available. Check current trail updates and shuttle details before you head out.

Get out, enjoy the trail, and support the communities and volunteers who help keep the GAP open. See you out there!

PA ARCHERY DEER SEASON IS OPEN through Nov. 20! 🏹🍂

And 2026–27 is the first season with Sunday hunting expanded to every in-season Sunday. Always check the latest PA Game Commission rules and confirm e-bikes are permitted where you plan to ride. Get permission before riding private land.
