⚠️ PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT — MCO / ORLANDO AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION ⚠️
This is especially important for independent drivers and small transportation business owners or for those individuals offering cheap rides to the airport on Facebook as a side hustle.
If you are being paid to transport passengers to Orlando International Airport (MCO), please make sure you understand ALL of the permits, registrations, insurance requirements, and fees that may apply to you.
I learned this the hard—and very expensive—way.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME:
After transporting a client to MCO, a Driver-for-Hire Enforcement Officer pulled in front of my vehicle and blocked me in. He approached me and asked for my driver’s license.
He took my license back to his vehicle and began writing citations. At that point, I still did not understand what I had done wrong. Orlando Police were also called.
After repeatedly asking what I was being cited for, I was told that I did not have the required “sticker” on my vehicle and that I was not properly registered with the airport and the City of Orlando.
Then things got much worse.
My vehicle was confiscated and towed, and I was issued a 365-day trespass warning from the airport.
I had to take an Uber to the tow lot and pay $1,400 CASH to get my vehicle out of impound.
I was also issued four citations totaling more than $2,000.
Because of the seriousness of the situation, we hired an Orlando criminal attorney and paid an upfront fee of $5,000.
The attorney was successful in getting the criminal citations dropped, but the civil citation and the airport trespass warning remain in effect.
Because the trespass warning is still active, I am currently unable to operate at MCO or complete the process necessary to legally resume transportation services there.
Between towing, citations, attorney fees and other expenses, this mistake has already cost me more than $10,000.00
But the biggest Personal loss will be the revenue from being unable to transport my loyal customers to MCO for up to a year. Orlando International Airport is one of the most frequently requested destinations for transportation from our area.
🚨 A WARNING TO OTHER DRIVERS:
Do not assume that having a business license and proper commercial insurance means you have everything required to transport paying passengers to MCO.
DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE ACCEPTING A PAID TRIP TO THE AIRPORT.
Make sure you determine exactly what is required by: October 1st, 2026
• Orlando International Airport / Greater Orlando Aviation Authority
• The City of Orlando
• Any applicable Driver-for-Hire regulations
• Your commercial insurance carrier
• Any other state or local licensing authority that applies to your type of transportation business
The cost of getting properly registered and permitted is nothing compared with what can happen if you unknowingly operate without something that is required.
TO MY LOYAL CUSTOMERS & VERO BEACH RESIDENTS:
If you hire an individual or transportation company to take you to MCO, I strongly encourage you to make sure the driver/company is properly insured, registered and permitted to provide paid transportation services at the airport.
Unfortunately, because of what happened, I must suspend my transportation services to Orlando International Airport until further notice.
I’m sharing my experience because I had no idea the consequences could be this severe, and I hope this prevents another independent driver or small business owner from making the same costly mistake.
Please share this with anyone you know who provides private transportation, airport transportation, or independent driver services in Florida.
